Eisenkr is a lovely person who helped my Turk problem.

I had a question about user testing. Eisenkr gave me some extremely helpful information through MeMail and more-regular-type e-mail about the Amazon Mechanical Turk (named after a fake chess machine from the 1700s. Awesome.) Really useful stuff and avery pleasant chap. This is a wee thread to say thanks to him, thanks to the guys who run this site, and thanks to community that makes this sort of thing possible. Cheers gang!

A private message to thank, a "Best Answer" and a flag as "Fantastic post" are usually all that's needed. If everyone used MetaTalk as a "thank you" sounding board, it'd quickly become unusable.

Which is not to say that Eisenkr doesn't deserve your thanks. Just, probably not here.

That's why I never do anything nice for anyone. I'm terribly scared of Meta filling up with needless drivel.

I think this is actually a good use of metatalk. It's much better then focusing on the negative. Public praise is a motivator of good behavior. If MetaTalk did fill up with thankyou notes, then we could find some solution. Until then it's not a problem.

I don't know, is this like your grandparents looking for plausible grounds not to follow orders barked at them by the monosyllabic peons of a bellicose occupying force? If so, then yes, this is exactly like that.

Who you callin' bellicose, asshole?

No wait, that's not right:

Who you call "mon... sill-bick," fuck face?

The weird thing is, I'm not even a little bit German. This is just solidarity with the peons of the world.

Thanks, Jessamyn!! I like you and I love this site!!!

But seriously, how does wasting time in this thread help solve the GMTM?*

A Buffalo buffalo to buffalo that a Buffalo buffalo to buffalo that a Buffalo buffalo to buffalo that a Buffalo buffalo to buffalo, a "Buffalo buffalo" and a buffalo as "Buffalo buffalo" are usually all that's buffaloed. If buffalo used buffalo to buffalo Buffalo buffalo about buffalo who used buffalo to buffalo buffalo who used buffalo as a "Buffalo" buffalo, it'd quickly become unbuffaloeable.

I studied some German at school, and can more or less understand spoken Dutch, for whatever that's worth. It's about an exact 50-50 mix of German & English.

Careful now, UbuRoivas. You know that Holland has abolished capital punishment, right? Well, the only exception, enshrined in the constitution, is when somebody says what you just said, which by the way requires no trial. So let's pretend this never happened, shall we?

holy shit, gnfti - i typed out a comment in ancient middle high Livonian as a joke, and only just realised now that it reads exactly like a grammatically correct comment in English!

what are the odds?

(and apologies to any turtle-breeders offended by my joke - i was only trying to make a crude pun & i don't actually believe you do what i implied)

It is! "Dutch" in this context derives from "Deutsch", German for "German".
