DMV let me here you holler! Washington, DC meet-up!!

I have found this great Polish restaurant on Georgia Avenue and Upshur Street NW called Domku that is really good and has a great selection of beers and food. Plus, there's permit-free parking and good metro connections. Thoughts?

I kinda want to do a Rock Band meetup. There's a bar in arlington that does it once a week, I think.

DMV? Those are some long lines, buddy.
posted by kldickson at 10:11 AM on March 18, 2009

Hmm. I am terrible at Rock Band, but I would entertain an Arlington meet-up. Info, Empath?

I call drums
posted by Potomac Avenue at 10:57 AM on March 18, 2009

Actually, looks like a new place in DC is dong it:

Lotus Lounge in DC, every wednesday night starting at 8. Apparently, they have a booming sound system.

The other place is Whitlow's in Arlington on tuesday nights. I've been to that one, but the place is kind of a dive.

Lotus Lounge is nice.

Also, I wanted drums :( If we get 8, we can have two bands, though!

Guitar please.

Can I play groupie?
posted by and hosted from Uranus at 11:32 AM on March 18, 2009

I emailed the organizer at lotus lounge to verify that it's still on-going. It's actually the head chef that put it together and he plays, too, so I'm betting it's probably still going on, but I wanted to be sure.

Domku's groovy. I mean, look at their selection of aquavits.
posted by MrMoonPie at 12:02 PM on March 18, 2009

I'm also all about the Rock Band, provided I also get a shot at the drums.
posted by Navelgazer at 12:02 PM on March 18, 2009

Someone should tell tittergrrl.
posted by MrMoonPie at 12:04 PM on March 18, 2009

I would love to....well maybe not the rockband part.

I will call the CSI guy and Magneto and see what they are up to
posted by ShawnString at 12:08 PM on March 18, 2009

You need me on them drums. Seriously. I can play.
posted by Ironmouth at 1:00 PM on March 18, 2009

Next week?
posted by anotherpanacea at 1:34 PM on March 18, 2009

Apparently it's not weekly. I asked for a schedule, he should get back to me shortly.
posted by empath at 1:41 PM on March 18, 2009

Okay, looks like next rock band night for Lotus Lounge is in April. Whitlow's does it every tuesday. I don't have a strong opinion on whether to wait :)
posted by empath at 2:11 PM on March 18, 2009

I gots me rock band 2 for the 360 with a full set up and like 200 somethin songs if people wanna rent a place out. I even have a (current broken but gonna fix it) mic stand!
posted by tittergrrl at 2:25 PM on March 18, 2009

I'm not wed to any particular location. We can ahve it at someone's house if you want (not mine).

I have the ion drum rocker kit with cymbals, too...
posted by empath at 2:45 PM on March 18, 2009

I'd much rather hit Whitlow's than Lotus, even though Lotus is closer to me. I mean, the beers start at $8?! Whitlow's is rather more down to earth. On the other hand, I'll not be participating in the Rock Band thing, so I'm not really voting.
posted by MrMoonPie at 5:03 PM on March 18, 2009

Boo... you can sing!
posted by empath at 5:07 PM on March 18, 2009

For anyone who wasn't at Whitlow's last night, our next night will be Tuesday March 24th. It'll also be my last as my co-op will be over that week and I'll be moving back up to Philly to continue school.

So-- next tuesday then?
posted by empath at 5:10 PM on March 18, 2009

Whitlow's is rather more down to earth.

And for what it's worth, I wouldn't classify it as a dive bar.
posted by inigo2 at 5:10 PM on March 18, 2009

I've wanted to go to Domku for a while--pierogis sound really good right now!
posted by orrnyereg at 5:52 PM on March 18, 2009

I'll totally sing ! At least once ;)
posted by tittergrrl at 6:23 PM on March 18, 2009

Looks like it's between Domku and Whitlow's. Neither are dives.
posted by parmanparman at 7:55 PM on March 18, 2009

But, Domku doesn't have waitresses who will royally fuck up your final check.
posted by parmanparman at 7:55 PM on March 18, 2009

I have 4 mic stands, none broken.
posted by Ironmouth at 8:06 PM on March 18, 2009

I am too uncool to like Rock Band.

I want some onion pie.
posted by zennie at 9:32 AM on March 19, 2009

I vote for whitlows because I work like 4 blocks away. And because I still have dibs on drums.
posted by Potomac Avenue at 1:59 PM on March 19, 2009

OK, Domku it is! I also suck at Rock Band and I want some herring. First weekend in April?
posted by parmanparman at 7:21 PM on March 19, 2009

Can't do it first weekend in April. Could do it second weekend. Or next weekend.
posted by MrMoonPie at 7:32 PM on March 19, 2009

I can do tues at whitlows but am out for much of april. Any chance we can get two meetups out of this single solitary thread? Let me hear you holler, rock banditos?
posted by juliplease at 8:29 PM on March 19, 2009

Two meet-ups! Great Idea. How about next Tuesday at Whitlows and second weekend in April at Domku? Times?
posted by parmanparman at 4:39 AM on March 20, 2009

I called Whitlow's - Rock Band starts at 9pm. So maybe 7:30 or 8?
posted by juliplease at 12:46 PM on March 20, 2009

Or is that too late for weeknight play for everyone?
posted by juliplease at 12:49 PM on March 20, 2009

That works for me. I'm actually off work at 8, so i'd be there around 8:30ish or so.
posted by empath at 3:18 PM on March 20, 2009

OK! Whitlows: 8:00 p.m. Tuesday! See you there. Who will bring the shout papers?
posted by parmanparman at 9:11 AM on March 21, 2009

Not it!
posted by Potomac Avenue at 12:21 PM on March 21, 2009

Neat, see y'all there. I posted the Meetup thread... which I now see means means it's duplicated. Oops.
posted by juliplease at 3:02 PM on March 21, 2009

Oh, man … I have to be in NC this week. I was really hoping to make it to the next VA-side meetup, too. The last one I went to was at Dremos and it was a blast.

Have fun; hopefully I'll make it to the next one.
posted by Kadin2048 at 11:42 AM on March 22, 2009

So do I need to bring Rock Band stuff or do they have everything at this place?
posted by tittergrrl at 5:59 PM on March 22, 2009

I'll be hangin' with doctorschlock at the Washington Psychotronic Film Society Tuesday. Is there a Domku plan?
posted by MrMoonPie at 6:17 PM on March 22, 2009

We need a Domku plan. MrMoonPie, want to name a date?
posted by parmanparman at 7:32 PM on March 22, 2009

I can't make it to Whitlows, but fwiw the place I work currently does Rock Band every other Tuesday (Mar 31 is the next night). I'm there every Tuesday so if anyone wants to stop by to say hi and play drums I'll totally lie to the bartender and tell them you're my out-of-town cousin to get you some special treatment. Just ask for Peter.
posted by peeedro at 11:44 PM on March 22, 2009

How about any Friday in April except the 3rd? 6:30 or 7:00, to beat the weekend dinner rush?
posted by MrMoonPie at 7:58 AM on March 23, 2009

Cool, Whitlow's is pretty much in my neighborhood. I'll be there.
posted by little e at 6:05 AM on March 24, 2009

Ok, now I can't make it as a good friend needs some post-breakup help. Sorry.
posted by Ironmouth at 1:53 PM on March 24, 2009

I am 50-50 tonight. I may have to stay at work and stuff envelopes! argh!
posted by parmanparman at 2:24 PM on March 24, 2009

I'll still be there, but I am not much of a one-man band.

I'm about 5'5", brown hair, checker-y black and white top, blue jeans, red shoes, flying solo. I have no plans to carry the MeFi sign.

Hope to see some of you there! I suppose being a solid friend and a hard worker are okay excuses, though... but just okay.
posted by juliplease at 2:27 PM on March 24, 2009

For what it's worth, doctorschlock's Washington Psychotronic Film Society offering was a doozie. Every Tuesday at the Warehouse, folks. That's some fine, fine entertainment.
posted by MrMoonPie at 7:36 PM on March 24, 2009

Whitlow's lied; there was no Rock Band. However, because MetaFilter showed up, there was much fun to be had.

It was awesome meeting you guys, Potomac Avenue, anotherpanacea, and little e. Thanks!
posted by juliplease at 8:06 PM on March 24, 2009

Yup, my first meetup was a good time, nice to meet you guys!

Sorry about the geography lecture everyone, I get a little didactic when intoxicated.
posted by Potomac Avenue at 6:31 AM on March 25, 2009

Argh, so sorry I missed it. I had to stay late at work and take care of some things. More likely to go to the next one at Domku.
posted by tittergrrl at 7:08 AM on March 25, 2009

Yes, have we fixed a Domku date/time? I'll bring wowbobwow with me, whether she likes it or not.
posted by orrnyereg at 10:00 AM on March 25, 2009

As I'm new in town, I spend several hours a week trying to find my way home, so I welcome all geography lessons.
posted by little e at 4:40 PM on March 25, 2009

Sorry! SO! MUCH! It was a painful evening in the dark office. How about the friday on the second week in April for Domku. I will not miss it.
posted by parmanparman at 8:46 PM on March 25, 2009

That Friday works for me.
posted by little e at 7:13 AM on March 27, 2009

Yup, I can do Domku on the 10th. 7?
posted by MrMoonPie at 7:26 AM on March 27, 2009

Nobody's chiming in with anything else, so I'm going to go ahead and sidebar it. (Since I'm currently spending this Friday night at work. And would really enjoy getting to interact with human beings other than my co-workers and the checkout lady at Safeway.)
posted by little e at 12:59 AM on April 4, 2009

see you on the tenth!
posted by parmanparman at 12:07 PM on April 4, 2009

Also, we should set aside some meetup time to make plans for the 10th Anniversary. There's got to be somebody in this group of DC professionals that knows the ropes in procurement and grant writing and can get us a big fat piece of the Metafilter Coolness Stipend.
posted by anotherpanacea at 6:55 AM on April 5, 2009

I would like to partake in the festivities. It would be my first meetup.
posted by mathlete at 8:12 PM on April 5, 2009

The MrsMoonPie and I will be there.

Wish I could make it, but I'm going to a korean poker game with my brother. Also I'm allergic to NW. Enjoy the suppositorial dissertations!

We're pretty easy to pick out in a crowd--I'm 6'5" and ponytailed; even if I'm sitting down, you should be able to find me.

I will be there, provided nothing explodes at work today.

Me. If I can find it this time.

PArty! Much fun, all. little e, Someone has just shot your horse!, Potomac Avenue, that was me yelling from the car as you walked down Georgia. As if you didn't know. Good times.

Okay, I give up. I figured out the DMV part pretty quickly, but what does "no furloughs" mean?

PS Meetups are fun
