Thanks, AskMeFites! March 24, 2009 3:30 PM   Subscribe

Just wanted to thank the many MeFites who chime in to offer advice to travelers...

Mrs. IRFH and I just got back from a short-but-sweet trip to New Orleans, and it was so helpful to be able to double-check our too-long list of possible destinations against the dozen or so threads on the subject chock-a-block full of advice from people I've come to trust and admire. We had a fabulous time, and your advice was spot on, as usual.

It's a great resource you've built here, mods, and thanks for fighting to keep it useful. And thanks especially (again) to all you users out there who bless us with your collective wisdom. I may not say it often enough, but I really... well, you know!

I love helping out people on AskMe and it's useful for me, too. Nothing out there much compares to it in quality.

I thought about it, ColdChef - I honestly did! A lot, actually. I think if the trip had been a little bit longer and my health a little bit better I would have got in touch. Next time, for sure. And there will be a next time.

Hmph. I guess some people just don't like to get wildly intoxicated with someone who has the ability and the wherewithal to dispose of human bodies. Lesson learned.

but I really... well, you know!

My raging Aspergers prevents me from discerning the emotional meaning of your evasion, there, but I'm pretty sure you insulted me and I'm going to take it out on you quietly for the next several months.

Pix or you weren't in New Orleans ignoring ColdChef.

Coldchef: I do like to get wildly intoxicated with people who are talented, official disposers of bodies! When I finally make my way to New Orleans, I will surely let you know!

rtha: We (bay area folk) should plan on making the summer NOLA meetup.

It's Raining Florence Henderson in New Orleans and Obama has done nothing for 3 days. When the levees break, lives will be on his head.

So where did you end up visiting, then?

I love answering travel questions. My favorite are the, "how do I get from A to B," where A and B are two remote cities in a place I've never been. Researching from how to get from A to B (even when it's not for myself) is my favorite way to play armchair traveler waiting for my next trip.

People who can dispose of dead bodies are my FAVORITE people to get inebriated with!

I still have a little statutes of limitation research left to do before I visit ColdChef down in Louisiana, myself.

Why do you think I went to law school in the first place?

I'll come visit you, ColdChef!

just as soon as I finish sculpting and putting the hair on these convincing-at-glance dummies of your little girls.

Man, aren't kidnappers a drag? *whistles innocently*

I almost asked what to do on my road trip to Grand Canyon over spring break but I never got around to it due to being wildly intoxicated. I'm sensing a trend here.

I think I'll avoid ColdChef though, what with being dead and everything.

A silent tear rolls down my cheek, remembering when I was in New Orleans and ColdChef told me to get ahold of him and I emailed and he never replied until I was back homeā€¦

I never visit Coldchef when I'm in New Orleans, but that's because he has a restraining order against me. You poop in a guy's mailbox one time.

If I'm ever in New Orleans, I pinky-promise to visit ColdChef, if he'll have me.

promises are easy to make when there's no chance of having to come good on them

Travel advice questions are awesome! I've asked 3, I think, and they've all been way useful. (One of the best visits from my mom was helped through some AskMefi advice.)
