DC Area Meet-up Plans! August 2, 2009 8:26 PM   Subscribe

Plans for future DC area meet-ups!

Not to be outdone by Chicago, there have been conversations about the possibility of more frequent DC area meet-ups. The 10th was a fantastic time and I know that at the very least Bulgaroktonos and I would be thrilled to spend more time with all of you.

Loto has very kindly taken the time to create a mailing list for upcoming DC MeFi events but as yet we have not had any activity on it (or possibly there has been some and it's just fallen into the void of e-mails I'm not getting).

The idea of monthly meet-ups still sounds good to me; we will be around next weekend and the weekend afterwards and also the weekend after that but not the weekend of the 28th. If these sound good to anyone else, we should definitely make plans to do something as unfortunately we seem to have lost planning momentum after we all stopped checking the 10th threads so regularly. If anyone has any time/place requests (at least for us Red Line accessible is best but of course we are flexible to suit the needs of others) that sounds good. Hopefully we can arrange something so that we'll be able to get together again soon as the 10th was the best time I've had in a while.

In summary, if we could figure out something for later in August as well as determine how often and where we would like to meet in the future that would be great. Thank you!

I'd love a DC meetup, since I couldn't make it to the 10th. Does Friday, August 14 work for anyone else? or Sunday, August 23?

Sunday the 23rd sounds good to me. Like mercredi, I was unable to make it to the 10th meetup but I've been wanting to try one for a while now...

I'm in, of course. My only plans (so far) for the month is a race on the 16th and then whatever games I happen to have scheduled on Saturday mornings. Neither of these things will prevent me from going out the night before much to the chagrin of my running partners and teammates.

I'm in! Fridays and Saturdays are fine, but I work on Sundays. The end of tourist season is definitely something to celebrate!

I'd be up for it, especially since I survived the 10th (my first meetup) but was spectacularly bad about mingling. I'll won't be in town on the 14th but could make the 23rd.

I'd definitely try to be there. Saturday nights seem to be less crazy for me than Fridays.

I'd be particularly up for doing something in the Orange Line area again (mostly just because it's an area I'd like to find some new cool places in, with Dremos gone).

Alright people I'm spending this weekend stuck at work not having fun and I need something to look forward to so let's make some plans!! (Although after the obscene quantity of fun had last weekend, I shouldn't really be complaining. Still can't believe we didn't get kicked off that golf course. But I am going to complain anyway.)

I count two No and three Yes for the weekend of the 14th, one No and two Yes for the weekend of the 23rd, and much messiness. Mrs. Pterodactyl, since we seem to be lacking a consensus, I nominate you to choose a date, and then we can discuss venues.

Well, I don't care which weekend it is, but I prefer Fridays and Saturdays.
posted by mathlete at 1:01 PM on August 8, 2009

Hi everyone, sorry, I am pathologically afraid of doing ANYTHING or making ANY decisions so I will try my very best.

Looking at the responses, it looks like the weekend of the 23rd works well for people who want to do stuff on a Sunday and next weekend would work well for people who would want to do something on a Saturday. Based on that, maybe we could do something similar to the 10th where people who want an afternoon meet-up could do something one weekend and those of us who are more bar-oriented could do something at a different time. That actually sounds good to me as I don't think that having to work nights or not drinking should make it a problem for people to attend meet-ups but I myself prefer evening social encounters.

If it is more or less okay with people I will decree an evening meet-up on Saturday, August 15th at somewhere on the Red Line and nominate an afternoon meet-up on Sunday, August 23rd.

I am more than open to changes but I also absolutely agree that someone needs to say something which is why I started the thread in the first place even though I am afraid of people and updating stuff. Please do forgive me; it's not a lack of interest, it really is fear.

For those of you who can't make anything in August, I think we are hoping to make DC meet-ups a regular occurrence so that would be great and hopefully I'll see at least some of you soon!
posted by Mrs. Pterodactyl at 10:19 AM on August 9, 2009

Sorry, Ms. Pterodactyl, but I don't think that's going to work. You should pick a single date that works for you, and probably also a place, and then those who want to meet some other time can set it up themselves. These are the burdens of command, sadly.

On that basis, I declare this a thread devoted to planning a meetup for Saturday night, August 15th.

I suggest that we meet at Busboys and Poets at 5th & K, at 7 PM.
posted by anotherpanacea at 5:10 PM on August 9, 2009

That's absolutely fair, and you're definitely right.

Busboys and Poets at 7pm this coming Saturday sounds great to me; thanks for stepping in and for your patience.

Dude. MoCo fair is over a week long. Plus, the animal exhibits don't even open until Sunday! I mean, honestly, what good is going to an Ag Fair if you can't get in* to the animal exhibits?!

* OK, you can probably just walk in, but animals aren't guaranteed to be there on Saturday.

This is true.

As for 9/20, I request somewhere with a better/cheaper beer selection. Since this is going to be an event I think we should choose someplace incredibly bad-ass for this to happen. Maybe a series of places. Someone who knows the city better than I will probably have more ideas but I will begin research soon!

I plan on taking 9/21 off... 9/22 also if I had a really good time.

Ohh, is that the place with no sign, right beside the far more obvious mattress store? I was disappointed to learn months later that there was not, in fact, a fashionable bed-themed bar called Mattress Discounters.
