[Flagged] as what? And can I find those flags again? September 11, 2009 2:52 PM   Subscribe

Two little flag ponies: after flagging a post or comment, can the text be elaborated beyond [Flagged], maybe [Flagged as Fantastic/ Noise/ Derail/ Etc]? I worry about mis-flagging items. Also, I often forget what I've flagged in the past, can we have personal, private histories of flags? Or are profiles either viewable to the public or MeFites, w/o options for personal views?

i would love a "flagged as" pony. i know i've misflagged in the past, although, without the chance to change it, i guess it doesn't much matter.

Ah, yes - perhaps a 1 minute undo/reset option?
posted by filthy light thief at 2:59 PM on September 11, 2009

I want to have a flagging score in my profile. It would be the percentage of comments / posts that I flagged as bad that were eventually deleted.

The person with the best scores could then get a prize. Maybe a stuffed pony.

Oh, and I want achievements/badges, like the Xbox.

Perhaps just a link to the things you've flagged as fantastic? That wouldn't be so bad for other MeFites to view, so there would be no worry about viewing permissions.
posted by filthy light thief at 3:03 PM on September 11, 2009

The flagging tool is really just there so that it saves you the time of having to email us, they're pretty much just a "let a mod know about this" feature.

If you want to flag stuff as fantastic and have that be visible to others, just favorite it [or do both so we'll see it for the "should this be on the sidebar?" reckoning we sometimes do].

Flags are really something that aren't supposed to have a lot of individual value, they're useful to us, in the aggregate, but they're not really intended to be a personal thing that belongs to a specific user.
posted by jessamyn (staff) at 3:05 PM on September 11, 2009

Kidding aside, I really would like a "Flagged as..." because I *know* I've misclicked at least once. Granted, it's not the end of the world if jessamyn comes by to check on the post I marked as HTML Display Error and finds "what's everyone's favorite way to bury a dead body using the products I've made available on my awesome website." But, dammit, I want to know I'm a productive member of the flagging community!

flt: Also, I often forget what I've flagged in the past

I understand that this probably isn't what you're getting at, but you can tell if you've flagged a comment cuz it won't let you do it again. It stays '[Flagged]'.

flt:I worry about mis-flagging items.
jessamyn: they're pretty much just a "let a mod know about this" feature.

It don't matter. That is, if you've flagged something fantastic as 'HTML/Display error' you can most likely count on a zillion other zealous flaggers to've made the correct flag. Yours will either be correctly interpreted as a whoops or misinterpreted as sarcasm. Either way, wevs. If you're the only flagger and you've made that same mistake, it's not like the moderators are robots who'll ram the BALEETED button without actually reading the flagged post/comment. Your mistake still points them towards the post/comment, and they'll figure things out on their own. They're big moderators.

I have flagged stuff incorrectly. I have also favorited something I meant to flag. I wish I could change my reason sometimes, but since I view a flag as "take a look here," I don't much care why.

Having a record of my own flags sounds like a bad idea.

As far as the profile pages go, I wish we had access to the CSS and the use of the img tag there. It's kind of our own little meta-space. Most people's profiles are pretty boring.
