Eureka! A couple of weeks ago in this thread I pleaded for some help in setting up my browser so that it would load a random website each time I started it up. Now that I've cracked it, I thought I'd share the link with you as a thank you to all those who pitched in ... it loads mostly weblogs completely at random ...
Woah! I clicked on it from inside the thread, and the random link was metatalk, taking me back to the MeTa front page. Spooky.

I forgot to mention -- for the full effect make the link your home page (via internet options in IE) and just keep hitting the 'home' icon ... it's addictive as hell ...

This is really great! I'd love to see a version dedicated to warbloggers, though, since my tastes tend to prefer them over first-generation bloggers.

Warbloggers are second-generation? Who'da thunk it? Is there a third generation too? (the bloggie-boomers?) Then there's the vanguard of the fourth generation - the X-bloggers! And what about the cluetrainy meta-bloggers? Where do they fit in? Maybe as Beat-bloggers... Can I be the vanguard of the next generation - the SlightyConfusedBloggers?
I want a label too, dammit!

Hey now! All I meant by "first generation" is basically all blogdom prior to the (mainly post-9/11) explosion of warblogs, which I think are a distinct genus of blog, and don't have a whole lot of interconnectivity with the first group.

Warblog n. A small bird, attonbitus warblogus, indigenous to North American coastal regions with some peripheral spread during the winter season. Related to the Warbler but much noisier.

Warblogs are blogs started specifically (or at least mostly) to comment on the course of the war. The term seems to have somewhat expanded, though, to where it covers just about everyone who uses their blogs to discuss the news and politics in general. The best place to get a list of them is the column marked "Anti-Idiotarians" on the right-hand side of the Little Green Footballs blog.

Wow! I never went back to the original thread to collect my praise (and attendant suggestion), and now I realize that I actually could configure the thing from a file in webspace with reasonably little trouble. Hmm... would anyone use it?
Better I spend my time cobbling together these little 10-line scripts than going back to weblogging. That would be bad.

It developed by setting up an account at cutandpastescripts, then feeding the random link script info from the following webrings... Linkwatcher, ameriBLOGs, Blogphiles , OddBloggers, blogsbywomen and I Love To Blog ... as well as the Seethru random link, gliff's random Mefi thread link and the skunkwork's random user link from the original thread ...
