Please help me stop Mrs Mutant from shopping on Boxing Day!! December 13, 2009 7:17 AM   Subscribe

Its Boxing Day. Surely you'd rather meetup than shop?

sueinnyc and I thought a Boxing Day meetup would be grand.

How would four PM or so work for everyone? Late enough so folks could meetup post shopping yet early enough to dissuade the frugal amoung us from shopping at all, your choise.

Anyone have a preference on location? If the East End suits we could try The Drunken Monkey , as its actually pretty pleasant on a Saturday afternoon.

If this isn't suitable please post suggestions for location in the thread! This time around Mrs Mutant, feeling her small far below sea level country is underrepresented in London, will import two additional people of the Dutch persuasion, her vader Roel and her broer The Dog.

Actually, it's Hanukkah. But for 26 December, I might hop the tram.

You're very lucky, Mutant, because Boxing Day is normally a big football day, but there's only crap teams (i.e. Newcastle United) on TV on the 26th, with the real football being played on the 27th. What I'm saying, therefore, is that I'll be there.

On preview: Could The Dog look any more like his dad?

Can't make this one, unfortunately – we're having the main family Christmas event on Boxing Day.

Sounds good to me! And thanks for giving me so much (undeserved) credit, Mutant:-)

It looks like I'll be stuck on my side of the Atlantic - but I'll raise a glass to all you all.

I will be stuck on the wrong side of the Great Ouse. Have fun without me.

Also on the other side of the Atlantic. Mexico to be precise.

If I was free on the 13th I'd love to come! Drunken Monkey has become an overnight favourite with me and NLM (soon-to-be MeFite GF of KMH!).......!

This could be good. This could be very good indeed.

I can do this. I doubt I'll be shopping anyway.

Strongly considering this. Absolutely no chance I will be shopping, football or the movies is much more likely.

Never been to a Boxing Day sale in my life. It sounds like a great idea, but if I got no man to carry bags, not much good then is it?

I'm going to be really, horribly annoying here but I promise it is in your best interests!

If we're talking East End anyway then I am contractually obliged to say the following:

I am playing in the band for the Hackney Empire's ridiculously well-reviewed Aladdin, and I happen to be doing 2 shows on the 26th, at 1pm and 5pm. If MeFites wanted to come and see the show then perhaps it could be worked into meetup plans?

Just a suggestion.....

You know, Lotto, that's an excellent idea. I'd definitely be up for that, either performance would be good. Anyone else?

Lotto, that's a fabulous idea, but isn't Aladdin totally sold out? If not, I'd love to go.

"You know, Lotto, that's an excellent idea. I'd definitely be up for that, either performance would be good. Anyone else?"

Hell yeh, that's an excellent idea! Marielle & I wanted to see this so why not on Boxing Day?

"Lotto, that's a fabulous idea, but isn't Aladdin totally sold out? If not, I'd love to go."

I just spot checked ten quid ducats for both the 1PM and 5PM shows on Boxing Day and could clear the four tickets we'd need. Of course that's no indication of precisely how many seats are still available, so I suspect if we're gonna do this we'd better agree to consummate the deal ASAP.

Lotto can you please confirm - this should run about two hours with interval, yes?

How about it we play it this way - whomever wants to go book and we'll still meetup around 4PM as originally planned? That way if someone doesn't want to / cant' make the show they could still attend the meetup.

I just tried to book a pair of tickets (for essexjan and me) for the 1 p.m. show on the 26th. I couldn't get any tickets at any price online. I just spoke with the box office and was told that there are only a few singles available.

Mutant, did you manage to get tickets already?

Have to admit, I never clicked through to complete the purchase, but was offered (at the first screen) tickets and a price band. Clicking through that worked.

Does anyone else know another way to get tickets?

Erm, essexjan? I'm going to have to take issue with "Boxing Day is normally a big football day, but there's only crap teams (i.e. Newcastle United) on TV on the 26th". The game between the Premiership's form team and some jokers from West London should be interesting.
posted by MrMustard at 11:32 AM on December 18, 2009

Mr Mustard, there's only Championship football on Sky on the 26th, according to the website.
posted by essexjan at 4:09 PM on December 18, 2009

Hi, sorry! Total length including interval is about 2 hrs 20... can be more depending on how much crazy ad-libbing takes place!

Best way to get tickets is to phone the box office, the online system can be unreliable. Good luck!

Jan: you forgot about ESPN - Brum v Chelsea and Liverpool v Wolves.
posted by Infinite Jest at 5:47 AM on December 19, 2009

I don't hve ESPN, IJ, only Sky. So, heh, no 'real' football on TV on Boxing Day, just also-rans, glory-hunters and losers.

Hey Marielle & I are gonna wander up to the box office this afternoon. We'll check out the ticket situation and report back ASAP
posted by Mutant at 6:44 AM on December 19, 2009

Hey guys, according to stage door the show is completely sold out until Jan 6th... so I would suggest sticking to the original plan on the 26th and then either re-scheduling a panto meetup (maybe for Sat 9th when I'm playing?) or people just individually coming to see it if they want!

ATTENTION - ALL. Location had to changed unfortunately. Still we found a place that will have us Boxing Day 16:00. It is called Sheraz Bangla Lounge and its location is 13 Brick Lane. Google Maps. Apologies for this last minute change.

Second thread on the front page to alert folks of the location switch, thanks essexjan!
