If I didn't have to go to my company's holiday party I would stay at my desk and listen to the podcast. Stupid party.

rtha, have you thought of projecting the podcast on a big screen during the party?

But we haven't finished transcribing the last one yet...

Yes! I was starting to worry that there wouldn't be a Nov. podcast, thanks to the favorites debacle.

The favorites experiment was a kerfuffle? I thought the experiment was a success, given the associated outcome. Huh.

And sorry that I sound like I am at the bottom of a well. While it is true that I do live in a rural forest location, the larger problem was that my headset broke and I did not realize it until right before podcast time. I now have a new headset. This will not happen again.

Last time you apologized for being "a little hyper and a little sweary."

You gotta stop that. We accept you just the way you are. Even if you're trapped in a well, swearing your head off.

Re: favourites, I think it's fair to say that they make the site more like Digg and Slashdot for some people. People frequently refer to favourites as "upvoting" or compare it to the Like feature on Facebook.

Oh wait, are we sick of talking about favourites yet?

Hell, I'd swear if I were trapped at the bottom of a well.

Wouldn't have happened the first time if you kept your well climbing equipment at all times. What would your 5th grade well climbing teacher say ?!

Ugh, you too, huh? You going to a shitty hotel bar as well? Bother.

What's that Lassie? Jesamyn sounds like she's in a well? Get this new headset to her! Good girl!

The word that jessamyn couldn't get off the tip of her tongue for the thing you can only see when you bend or fan the pages of a book is fore-edge painting1, nice examples of which can be seen over at the Boston Public Library.

You going to a shitty hotel bar as well?

I wish.

Our party was a lunchtime affair held in the conference center next door.

Truth be told it was pretty fun and the food was good and I won a $25 gift card for Peet's, but I was back at my desk by 1:45 and that just kind of kills the "holiday party" feel.

wave: I use it to learn collaboratively in real time, we write down questions, and then organize them, then fill in the answers (kind of like a more parallel wiki, mixed with a chat window).

Hey, neat, thanks for the mention! I haven't updated the tweetEff2 script in a while because you reach the API limit in, like, three minutes and twitter hates you for the rest of the day when you continue past your limit. Maybe I should look at identi.ca.

While I can't in good conscience support any podcasts which fail to include one of my own contributions, I can agree that

1.) The Clue question is fantastic, and

2.) Hyper and Sweary should always be encouraged. I give you my best in your trek out of the well, Baby Jessamyn.

How did I miss the clue question! Fantastic! And so great to see everything worked out donation-wise. As a bleeding heart liberal NPO employee person, I always get a little, well, ashamed, or at least embarrassed, when I am reminded how much time one has to spend and rigamarole one has to go through just to give money away. Anyway, glad it worked out - and fuck you paypal.

Yesterday I went to my company Christmas party and today to my University Christmas party and both involved an afternoon drinking free beer out in the sun and both were awesome. Suck on it.

Oh it's worse than that. The local coffeeshop has a huge box of classical music CDs for sale, only a buck apiece. So I picked up a Fred Frith CD and I saw a Lutoslawki CD [Matrix22] and was like "hey!" and picked it up. Listened to it a little bit on Friday and spent a lot of time going "ow ow my EARS" So, um, do you want it?

That is incredible and hilarious. I guess he is a bit of an acquired taste (though Fred Frith isn't exactly Norah Jones either!). I never say no to classical music recordings, especially those of my namesake, though I fear it would cost more to ship it across the country than you paid for it at the shop! It would make a lovely Christmas gift for a contemporary classical music fan, or a great white elephant gift for anyone else. Of course, if it's haunting you and you really need to get it out of the house...I mean, I would probably end up framing it with a little caption reading "Jessamyn West's first Lutoslawski Record," sort of Hard Rock Cafe style.
