Can you clarify a little?

You mean Max Fun Con? It's an event. Sounds cool. You can hide it.
posted by The Whelk at 12:24 PM on January 26, 2010

Yes, Max Fun Con. Didn't realize it was mefi-related.
posted by four panels at 12:25 PM on January 26, 2010

Because if you're talking about the little MaxFunCon thing up in the corner of the front page, this is not a new thing at all.

If you're talking about something else, it'd be good to know what you're talking about. I don't know if adivan is an Ativan joke or a reference to a badly-spelled ad you saw somewhere or what.

You can press the big "hide" link and make it go away forever.

Downloadable sandwiches now for cabal members?

Just curious.

Caught me off guard too. "Oh I must be logged out, er, maybe not."

Is it an ad or more of a "hey this is cool and you should go" endorsement type of thing?

It is a great shame that conference is on Mother's Day. That's a dealbreaker.

What! MaxFunCon! That sounds awesome! I wanna go. Who wouldn't go?? I mean it's MAX FUN!

Does sound really awesome. Wish I had $700 (plus airfair) to spend!

Air fare, too.

Yes, what the hell is MaxFunCon and why is it on my professional white background?

Also, how come I didn't get a personalized handwritten invitation? You think I'm not fun? Is that it?

All the cool comp. sci. kids are waiting it out for MinMaxFunCon, though.

I'll be at MaxMinCon, for lovers of Gigantic Minnie Mouses.

ExLaxFunCon? That doesn't sound very fun at all!

You know what really sounds fun? An air fair!

... now, how do we get the ferris wheel onto the plane?

What they don't tell you is that during MaxFunCon, you're only allowed to speak Mad Ape Den.

Think of it as an experiment.

It's both really. I sponsored it last year and loved it. This year Jesse asked if I'd help advertise it so here we are (and you can easily disable it). At least half a dozen mefites were there last year and this year all the mods will be there as well.

Heh, I didn't even notice the ad until now. Thanks, ultra-widescreen monitor!

All that ad is doing is increasing my sadness and longing about not being able to justify the cost (being as I live on the other side of the country). So, you know, THANKS FOR THAT.

Totally not nuke safe.

Maybe the mods could leave one of those "Letters of Last Resort" with someone...you know...in case.

though of course we'll retaliate no matter what the letter says, so...

Hells yeah. I'll be there, too.

I endorse MaxFunCon. I went last year and enjoyed the hell out of it. Unfortunately I can't go this year, but I'm pencilling in MFC 2011!

In short, if you can go. Go. It's the ultimate meet-up with awesome people.

No worries, folks, I will be well away from this event in a secure undisclosed location.
posted by Meatbomb at 4:27 PM on January 26, 2010 [1 favorite]

I keep Meatbomb's physical link to the Material Plane secure as a snail shell inside my mossarium. Without it, he'd be Astral bound - and far, far more dangerous.

If ColdChef is going I will stow away in his condolet.

What?
posted by mr_crash_davis mark II: Jazz Odyssey at 5:09 PM on January 26, 2010

Top right of the front page, hal_c_on. 125x125 pixel ad, light blue in color. If you have ad filtering software of some sort that might block it entirely, I dunno.

It was essentially over the sidebar. It died a quick death upon my spying of it.

After they played my call about the kidney stone, I figure I can't show my face in front of Jesse or Jordan.

Also, no money.

I'm actually entertaining the idea of driving up to San Francisco for a few days after MaxFunCon. I'll let you know. (Am I really missing Mothers' Day? Oh shit. And SF is where we went on our honeymoon. I'm a terrible father.)

$100 discount for MOMS.
