Modern Warfare 2 on PS3? February 10, 2010 10:00 AM   Subscribe

Is there a Mefi Modern Warfare 2 gang playing on PS3? I just started playing multiplayer, and I'm sick of getting my ass kicked by 4 year olds with lightning thumbs.

I tried to join the MeFi XBox Live group some time ago, to no avail. I play MW2 fairly often, and I'd love to group up and play with some MeFites.

I'm an idiot. I don't have a PS3...Sorry, I need to start reading things more carefully.

so, you're assuming that Mefites are not 4 year olds...... ?? Are you new here?

No, I'm saying they don't have lightning thumbs.

you should join mefightclub and start a thread asking for people to play with.

Aside from the mefightclub idea, which I heartily endorse, if you want to be generally available (or generally known, I guess) for gaming on your ps3, you can add your PSN ID to your Metafilter profile. Neat!

I could have sworn there was an Xbox tag as well, but I can't find it.

Yea, I've asked a couple times about ps3 folks doing whatever, and people always send me to mefightclub.

Thing is, nobody at mefightclub actually plays ps3. It's pretty exclusively console, and what's not console is 360.

I spent 3 days looking for someone to play borderlands w/, and then I just gave up. I don't have mw2 yet, but if you'd like to add my tag feel free. (It's the same as my name here.)

Err I'm dumb. It's pretty exclusively PC, not console. People who don't play PC play 360.

Yeah, mefightclub is mostly PC, but there are a bunch of us that have PS3s and/or 360s, it's just that we tend to play our multi-player stuff on PC over the PS3. Feel free to add me to your friends list on PS3 (Grither there, too), but I also tend to play the single player games on PS3 and multi-player on PC...

I always get the feeling that I'd have liked borderlands better if I played it on a console. I think part of what makes the PC the goto platform ( I almost wrote goto console, haha, wow) is that Steam's PC tools for invitations are so easy to work with.

MeFightClub has a little Steam Announcement in twitter client for organizing games ad hoc; do you think that a "Hey I'm looking for PS3 action" announcement group would be of value?

Same here. I followed these instructions, but my friend request goes unanswered.

I would do things such as this if I was willing to pay for Xbox Live Gold. But I'm not so I am stuck in a weird limbo of having all the latest and greatest games, and wanting to play multiplayer with pals, and getting requests to do just that, but only being able to sit there, glassy-eyed and slightly maudlin.

borderlands is absolutely best on the 360. the ventrilo/teamspeak conflicts over steam for the game are ridiculous. it's really a blast on the 360.

Try creating an account. Microsoft periodically gives you a free month trial account with no financial obligations, and only a spam e-mail address needed for Windows Live or whatever. I've made at least 3 of these accounts for friends and such.

...

I just updated my gamertag on the XBox 360 wiki. I'll try to add others that have MW2 listed as well.

I'd be more than happy to play MW2 with any of you, if you would like to send me a friend request... gamertag is on the wiki linked above.

I've kind of had the same experience with MeFight and PS3. It seems you've got a great community over there, it's just not one that plays PS3, and my computer is a four year old laptop that struggles with flash games.

I've got MW2, and to be honest, I kind of stopped playing it, partly due to the, I guess, learning curve. On the original MW, I regularly racked up 20+ kills and 3 or 4 deaths in a deathmatch game. On MW2, I'm getting slaughtered. I'd be willing to give it another try, if you're up for it (time difference might be an issue), or if you want to play the original, is also good. My PSN id is in my profile, so feel free to add me, just let me know you're from MeFi.

(One thing I'm not crazy about: there's way too much one shot, one kill in MW2. You go around a corner and die horribly, way, way too often.)

Me too. I completely forgot about it until I earlier today, actually, checking my friend's list mid-game and seeing that I still hadn't been accepted.

don't worry about it. nothing happens on the xbox live friends list. I'm serious, I got one invite one time years ago and that was it. I don't even know if the person who created the mefi account has even logged in since then.

I'm brokendonut on PS3. I'd love to play some MW2 or Wipeout HD/Fury. And Burnout Paradise, once it arrives (I just got the console recently, so I'm still loading up on games).

I've only recently started on the PS3 and have been playing Team Fortress 2 as my online habit. I'm on the PS network as oogtastic.

There's no open lists on the XBLA lists? You always gotta get approved?

schoolgirl report, Burnout Paradise is a good amount of fun. I'm on there as ghidorah5000. I've played a bit of Battlefield 1943, and I'm just getting into Bad Company before the new one comes out.

Oh, yeah, I've got an account, had it for a few years, it's just back to being Silver, so I can access XBLA and stuff, but can't multiplay.

i'm empathogen75 on xbla and i'm playing mw2 pretty much every day, feel free to friend me.

Here's the list of people who self-identify in their profiles as being PS3 gamers. I do eventually plan on getting Modern Warfare 2, but I'm currently rocking Borderlands and enjoying it enough to not feel a pressing need to switch quite yet.

not sure what you mean. if you mean, "can you just add a bunch of people without their approval for the sake of game invites?" the answer is "no, you have to get their approval to add them to your friends list." what I meant by "I got one invite years ago," though, was that - after someone had made the mefi account and had approved my friend request - I got one invite to play a game and that was it. after that, I don't even know if the person who made the mefi account even signed in again ever.

If you're willing to pay something, but not the full amount, keep an eye out for discounts. I got a years worth for ~$30 after bing cashback.
