May Meetup in ABQ: Round 2 May 3, 2010 12:09 PM Subscribe
Though the prior meetup hasn't happened yet, is anyone up for another Albuquerque meetup on Friday, May 21st or Saturday the 22nd with some out-of-town MeFites?
My wife and I are thinking of moving to ABQ, and will be out there in a few weeks to check it out in person. We'll be wandering around the area with her parents, and I thought it would be grand to meet some local MeFites while we're there, if anyone is available.

Ach! Any weekend but that weekend (or the following one)! I'm getting married that Saturday and on honeymoon the week after. I'd love to meetup and get to know some other NM Mefites too, but needless to say I'll be a bit preoccupied at that particular time. :-(

oneswellfoop - I was actually scheming and thinking of a more San Luis-centric meetup, after the last two were in Los Osos and Santa Barbara. We won't leave before one last hurrah.
TWPL - congrats, and apologies! My parents-in-law will be there according to their driving schedule (seeing two daughters graduate on the other side of the country, then driving back to California) and my wife and I have purchased our tickets. I'd offer you and your wife-to-be a pint or a bite on that Friday, but I assume the days are packed. If not, the offer stands.

Aww, thanks for the offer, FLT! We're doing the wedding rehearsal and rehearsal dinner on Friday, otherwise I'd take you up on it! Hope you enjoy ABQ regardless... I fell in love with the place myself back in 2006. They don't call it the Land of Enchantment for nothing!

Damn, I'll be out of town that weekend. Hope you have a great time! Be sure to go to the Frontier.

I'll be around that weekend! I'd be happy to do any weird Albuquerque stuff if you want to do something more touristy or just... tour-y than the standard meetup thing.
If you're thinking of moving out here, you should check out the Duke City Fix-- it has a pretty good events calendar and there's lots of stories on weird local stuff.

TWPL - I'm now wondering if I'm not going to be at your wedding. The spouse-to-be is not from Grants, are they?

The Winsome Parker Lewis: Are you planning to be at the meetup tomorrow?
The weekend of the 21st-22nd is good for me. Either night should work. As for venue on a weekend, your best bet would be something along the lines of O'Niell's or Andodyne, the former is a large Nob Hill Irish bar with lots of seating and a big parking lot, the latter is has pool tables, a great jukebox and is downtown. Downtown on the weekends can get a little hectic for parking. Both have pretty good beer lists.

NoraReed - that would be lovely! It seems like a rather large area, and I am both excited and daunted. My wife and her parents drove around Albuquerque and Santa Fe a while back, but I think it was more wandering than with any goal.
signalnine - either sound fantastic!

I'm down for a meetup. My vote is for O'Niell's. They have a patio, and the evening weather should be nice by the end of May.

PMdixon: Nope, you must be thinking of somebody else. May's a good time for weddings! :-)
signalnine: Sadly I didn't keep up with the progression of that thread, and missed that a date had been set. I'd already made other plans. Plus I live in Santa Fe, so it's tough to head down to ABQ after work on a weekday. I haven't had good luck with these meetups, have I?

Ha! I'll be in the city the previous weekend.
By the time of this meet-up I will be reliving my youth in the northern end of the state.
All you will be missing is a chunky bastard getting drunk and telling anyone who will listen how great they have it living in NM. That would soon be followed by sobbing and lamentations about what a shit hole Texas is.
Someday perhaps.

Man, Seamus, if New Mexican bars aren't for getting drunk and bitching about Texas, what are they for?
Maybe next time!

So, are you talking about Nob Hill, or the new one on Juan Tabo?

This is why I shouldn't MetaFilter after my bachelor party. My computer says it's May 21, and it's nighttime... but it's not the night of May 21. Sorry guys. I need to hit the sack now, seriously. Have fun tonight!

I'm not sure if y'all know each other by sight, but I'll be wearing a mustardy yellow shirt and blue-grey shorts, my wife in a black dress. The parents-in-law: tbd.

P.S.: sorry for the lack of pictures from the meeetup. Next time ....

BTW, are you kinda doing a reverse Bugs Bunny, who used to take a wrong turn in Albuquerque while trying to get to Pismo Beach? If so, be careful you don't end up in the Sahara Desert...
