Austin, it's time to sacrifice one of our own to the God of Air Conditioning before the summer gets hotter than a stolen tamale. How about a gathering next weekend, on May 15th?

Depending on how many people want to come, how about getting a karaoke room at the new bowling alley/upscale diner/cocktail bar/performance venue/karaoke bar that just opened up on South Lamar, the Highball?

There are a number of individual karaoke rooms available, ranging in size from 6 to 16 people, to which drinks and food trays can also be ordered, I understand. I've only been in the Highball once, but it had a sort of space age swank to it that I liked a lot, and the situation would be a fun one I think for hanging out and getting to chat while also having an activity and adult beverages.

ps: restless_nomad, if you read this thread, i owe you a long-overdue apology. i hope i can buy you a beverage a some gathering to help atone for my mistaken and libelous slander on the radio.

Also, re: Highball: If more than 16 people wanted to come, we could potentially reserve more than one room, and switch off between them, which could a fun mingling-type scenario.


pps: to the Austin MeFite I ran into off Cameron that day, who I won't put on the spot by using hir username but who had the awesome idea of hosting a gathering at hir very own house: that's still an awesome idea! You should totally do that.

While I don't expect anything to be placed on hold or rescheduled for me at all, if it's possible (and assuming you want foreign incursion ;-), I'd love to see you all on the 30th, rather than the 16th... I'll be in Austin for a conference all that week.

Heh, Slappy, all is forgiven, but I will always take a free drink :) I'm in whenever - my schedule is is pretty free right now.

The Highball is fun, but we'd definitely want to reserve space ahead of time - it gets pretty nuts there, that I've seen.

Oh also, I really want to go and hang out, and I am totally in to going wherever, however my financial aid has ran out, I am only working part time and so I am flat broke. So i can sit somewhere and sip water with you guys and throw down for the tip (you know, to be polite). Otherwise, i may have had my mouth write a check my bank account can't cash.

I got your back for a beer. Unless my financial aid also runs out. I landed a job, but it doesn't start until the 17th, so a payday isn't until a couple of weeks after that. But I'll just pawn my daughter's Precious Moments figurines and my wife's wedding ring, and a good time will be had by all.

Can a Houstonite who just found out she's going to be in town that day for the Renegade Craft Fair attend*? I couldn't stay long, because I'll have to drive back to Houston that evening, but I could hang out for a couple of hours.

*Sometimes, I impress my ownself with my convolutedness.

I'm glad I checked the meetup listing today because I missed this thread while I was on vacation! I need to check with Mr immlass, but tentatively we should be there. Our weekend plans for an early Schlitterbahn trip this weekend seem very unlikely, she said, listening to the thunder and looking at the forecast for more of the same all weekend.
