The poem that had the rhyme Hitler / Metafitler?

I do not remember any of the deatils, so Google no work for me.

There was an excellent poem written about some spammer here, and it ended with this rhyming couplet.

Well, we could make a new one up...

There once was a WEBSITE named METAFILTER,
UNCONSTITUTIONAL, PROGRESSIVE and HITLER.

Was it T. S. Eliot's The Waste Land?

*Googles*

Yes. Yes it was. He was really ahead of his time.

I am hoping that DU gets zero (0) favorites for posting that tired old poem mashup. (no offense DU) And that this thread will mark the end of this tired meme on MetaFilter.

No offense taken. I think it should be widely known by now that there's nothing I find funnier than tired old memes.

I mean:

MetaFilter: nothing funnier than tired old memes

and

YO DAWG I HERD YOU LIKED OLD MEMES SO I PUT FOLGER'S CRYSTALS IN YOUR WHERE'S THE BEEF AND NOW YOU CAN'T GET UP

I just realized all 3 of my "really old memes" were commercials. Did I just watch too much TV as a kid or were ads a larger part of the memesphere back then? I guess they'd have to be, since there wasn't an Internet yet. But what were some, let's say, 80's era catchphrases that were NOT based on commercials? How about not based on TV at all?

Maybe this should go in AskMe.

DU: "But what were some, let's say, 80's era catchphrases that were NOT based on commercials? How about not based on TV at all? "

I've always wondered where exactly shouting NOT at the end of a sentence came from. I contend that I heard people doing it in my town at least a year before Wayne's World.

Hmm. I remember that. May have been an old one of mine, or at least I think it was in a thread I was otherwise shitting in following. I'll see what I can turn up.

Before the movie or before the SNL shorts with the same characters?

Before Wayne's World the movie, or Wayne's World the sketch?

(Of course, "NOT" comes from Mike Myers, who used it with his friends when he was a kid in Toronto in the '70s, so, hey.)

Yeah, but Meatbomb hasn't been back to confirm if that's the poem he was looking for. How can I work when the state of this inquiry is so uncertain? The suspense is killing me!

I'm favoriting DU too much today. My old meme threshold must be low. I should get more Vitamin D.

And I would politely request that DU be taken out and shot for daring to do the very bad thing. But maybe just lightly shot in a sort of friendly way.

Metafilter = Hitler (in a bad, particularly nazi mood after being served veal by the obergruppenfuhrer)

AskMe = Sigmund freud (with a carbine on a particularly wicked coke binge)

MeTa = Marcel Duchamp (after doing too much PCP and with too many electric eels down his pants)

He killed lots of people and it

Seems that now his damned name
Typed out loud seems to tame
Overwrought threads 'cos
People just quit.

I know I shouldn't do it because it's lame but I can't help it

I prefer to keep a negative number of electric eels in my pants so that if a few of 'em do sneak in there I'll still be at zero. Belt and suspenders, you know?

Electric eels in one's pants may be useful when performing certain slide based line dances. Further study is needed.
