An Update and A Thanks. May 31, 2010 7:20 AM   Subscribe

Updates to An Honored Mefite In Trouble, Loquacious is out of the hospital and thanks to the generosity of everyone who's donated thus far, he is now in a position to consider new opportunities which weren't available to him before. Things are looking up. The charity auction is going strong, with the first auction closing today. Many thanks all.

P.S : If you're more interested in giving in person or just hanging out - the raffle fundraiser in NYC is being held on the 5th , with gifts from many rockin' mefites.

loquacious has some recent developments at the bottom of his profile, and I'll post a comprehensive update on Wednesday or Thursday once things are more clear.

Is there a method of donating just straight-up cash at this point? I was going to bug gman about this at the meetup this weekend but I forgot!
posted by FishBike at 10:05 AM on May 31, 2010

Does gman need more donations for his auctions? It looks like he hasn't listed anything new in a while.

I look forward to seeing pictures of the NYC raffle meetup! With great piles of loot, copious amounts of beer, and a stage for MeFites to embarrass themselves on, this event will probably make MetaFilter history. Don't let me down, New York.

By the way, if anyone in the SF area wants to donate plain ol' cash, I can get it directly to loquacious without going through PayPal or Western Union, etc. Hubby lives in the Seattle area, so if I tell him I have $X here for loq, he will go to the bank up there and withdraw $X in cash, then contact loq to arrange a time and place to meet, whereupon he will hand over the greenbacks. (Hopefully without making it look like a drug deal.)

Out of courtesy to Hubby, I'd like to aggregate everything into a single lump sum so he only has to make one trip. If you're OK with all this, contact me to coordinate a donation at this end.

(If you want to donate through PayPal, gman already has that covered.)

FishBike - Money can be sent via the donation link on the blog.

Quietgal - Yeah, the outpouring of generosity has been overwhelming. We basically decided to cut the new listings off at the end of last week so as to have everything finished up before next weekend.

OK, gman, good to hear.

Anybody in the Bay Area interested in throwing some kind of fundraiser in these parts? After all, loquacious was "ours" for a while. I can definitely help with planning and organizing.

But, I'm not exactly clear... will there be another auction after this one gman? Sorry if this was explained somewhere and I missed it.

Naw this is the last auction. There is a raffle for prizes in NYC on the 5th, but that's stuff people are giving me to raffle off in person in actual reality this saturday.

It'll be a little sad if my posters go for 99 cents. c'mon, people. Check the band lineups on those! Rock history, man.

So, say I'm a slow one and er.. just now reading up about all this. Is there any way to send some moolah loq's way outside of the auction and NY raffle? I have no need for more material things. I have a need to help in at least a miniscule way for loq to recover from this.

Just in case anyone else is as slow as me, a method for (in)direct donation is located in the last thread here. Thanks gman!!

Since it looks like no one is able to show - up (I have gotten the STRANGEST e-mails lately, like the UNIVERSE doesn't want to us to meet on the 5th) We're calling this off and moving it another venue and another time. - I'll see oif I can get the mods to change this / take it off the the Met-Up Bar - and we'll talk about moving it to another time. So far the best idea is Newpotato's slamming roof and much beer.

To everyone who donated! Do not fear, I have all your beautiful treasure safely stowed away in my apartment. It is safe.

SOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooooooo. When can people actually show up?

ONE HOUR 3 MINUTES TO SNAP UP HISTORICAL MUSIC POSTERS!!!

Hi, The Whelk. I'm from the internet... I'm here to help
posted by Devils Rancher at 5:58 AM on June 4, 2010

Hey there. Sorry I'm a little late on the update, but I wanted to wait until plans were more concrete.

First off, I'd like to thank everybody for their incredible generosity. Whether you donated goods, dropped a supportive email, posted an in-thread comment, bid on an eBay auction, or sent cold hard cash, we appreciate every last bit.

Thanks to all your support, loquacious has some awesome new opportunities available to him. As of Monday, he will have the keys to his first very own place. Your generosity has afforded loquacious the following:

a) almost three weeks of temporary accommodation
b) a phone connection to friends and family
c) and this is the big one, nearly one year of rent in his new apartment
d) some basic housewares and a futon to sleep on
e) set-up/deposit on his utilities

So loquacious is on the mend, and his heartfelt thanks goes out to each of you.

Fuckin' right people!
