MidAtlantic Meetup March 11, 2002 6:57 PM   Subscribe

Those Southern Californians are having their own get-together - so why not the mid-Atlantic region? I'm not exactly volunteering to organize, but if any DC/Baltimore/etc are Metafilterites would be interested in such a scheme, perhaps here would be a good place to post about it.

I'd go, assuming Amtrak had one of their insane 90% off sales on the here-to-DC ticket the day of the meet. It's the only way I could afford to show up.

I'm game...and I wouldn't mind helping put this together.

OK, so no one knows me yet, but I'd like to attend.

I might drop by and spy on y'all, but you'll never prove it was me.

There is a reasonably active mailing list for webloggers in the D.C. Metro region with events organized (I use the term loosely) every week or so. There's a group that plays pool every Friday, another group has started getting together for lunch on the Hill once in awhile, and so on. The name of the list is weblogs-social-dc and it's hosted at Yahoogroups. John of Genehack is the list owner. Criteria for subscribing are pretty loose: 2 of the 3 should apply: you have a weblog, you're social, you're in the D.C. Metro region.

Oddly enough, I can be available in DC.

What's the plan?

I'm in, as long as it is in DC or NoVa.

Seeing as I just moved here and don't know ANYBODY, I'm interested.

I suppose you actually have to run a weblog (rather than waste half your workday rading them) to belong to the aforementioned DC Webloggers Club?

No, arco, no weblogging required. I don't run one, either, and I got together with group members Friday night for beer, pool, and Chinese food, and yesterday for lunch. Most of us aren't painfully geeky, either. Most of us.

wow, big day for us -- i just added three new people to the list.

for those of you attempting to sign up, there is a requirement that you send me back an email explaining why you meet the 2 of 3 rule (weblog and/or (metro) dc and/or social), but that's mainly so i can tell you to post an intro to the list (just so people will know that you're around).

it's a fun, friendly group; my only regret is that i can't make it to more of the meatspace gatherings.

oh, and the mefi community should feel free to join the list and use it to coordinate any and all dc area events -- to sort of stay mostly on topic 8^)=

Hey, for all those interested in this, we should probably setup some sort of e-mail list/chain type thing. Since no one else seems interested in volunteering to set this up, why don't ya'll just e-mail me and I'll create a list and we can communicate through e-mail then. My address is on my profile.

i'd love to attend such a gathering, assuming i can drag myself from annapolis.

BlueTrain, genehack's group is pretty much what you propose. Of course, there are some non-MeFites there, but I don't mind their coming along. By the way, I met yet another member of that group last night at a happy hour--always good to see the person behind the persona.

I'm not sure what we (MeFi) want to do...is all. Do we want this to be a BLOG community-type thing, or just a MeFi thing? I don't have a preference, but we should probably come to some consensus.

why do we need a mailing list? it seems the other mefi gatherings i've seen on MeTa just said where and when right here.

so, umm, where and when, pretty please? i'm in.

(an informal place with room for about 15 or so? sounds like a coffeehouse, bar, or bowling alley?) (herndon is good for me, but someplace in NW could do nicely. Clarendon?) (7PM-ish on a weeknight?)

I'm in, too, but I don't know where anything is, so I'll wait for someone to suggest a particular place and see how difficult it is to get there. I work downtown (at the MLK Library, near the MCI Center), live in Alexandria, and can get anywhere Metro can go (and/or I can figure out how to drive to).

How about Great Falls?
