NY World Cup Final Meet-up

Are people interested in meeting up to watch the World Cup final in New York City? It starts at 2:30 pm on Sunday, July 11th.

Well, maybe you can come by my bar and we'll watch it. You've been there beforew and they've been playing all the cup games to good crowds and sunday's one of my days off. Lemme know.

Um, I happen to know an excellent pub with lovely food next to a major subway stop

I'm there almost every sunday *anyway*, although usually a bit earlier if you want a pre-game nosh. They got screens, not too crowded, actual sassy barmaids and food better then it should be.

Both suggested places are good. I suppose it's better to wait until the weekend winds down before seeing how many people are interested and whether we need to reserve space beforehand. Oh, and providencian will also be in NYC (we're both going to get drunk, rowdy, and our asses handed to us in the Brooklyn International Kickball Tournament as representatives of the drink-addled Providence Kickball League (please feel free to come root for us on Saturday... odds are we'll be losing heavily but having more fun than the victors).

Alright... Spain vs. Holland. Could be a classic, could be a snoozer, either way, it's gonna be a new name on the World Cup.

As to Malachy's vs. Bar None... any particularly strong feelings either way? Both are good places in easy locations to get to.

That is not a bad reason, Malachy's it is. I'll call the meet-up for 1:30, giving us an hour to get in the mood for WORLD CUP FINAL ACTION YEAH.

1:30 pm, Sunday July 11th, World Cup Final meetup, at Malachy's, on the corner of W 72nd St. and Columbus Ave. Close to Metro stops for 1/2/3 and B/C.

The Whelk, can you talk to the good people of Malachy's about reserving space. 15 people, give or take a couple, seems a reasonable expectation of how many will show up.

I'm there early anyway but I'll ask the nice people about reserving some of the tables in the back. I'm not expecting a huge crowd, the annoying sports bars nearby soak up most of the ball-watching trade.

Just noting that the B train does not run on Sunday, for anyone who might look for it. I am not sure if I can come or not. I work in that neighborhood, so I know Malachy's, but I may have a date.
