A Walk to the South Pole July 15, 2010 9:48 AM   Subscribe

Hey, remember when Metafilter anted up $100 to help sponsor Ben Saunders' walk to the South Pole and he had to postpone the project? Well, it's back on for next year.

We're a sponsor for Mile 45, which means that MetaFilter's name will be printed on the team's sledges and the flag that will be planted on the South Pole, and the front page of the expedition site will display the MetaFilter name on the day that the team is on mile 45 of the 1800-mile journey. (Mile 666 is still up for grabs. Maybe Mr. Saunders is waiting for Iron Maiden to purchase that mile.)
And a thanks to SportsFilter user worldcup2002 for the reminder. S/he sponsored Mile 27 in SportsFilter's name.

The link in his question from a few days ago shows his trip to the north pole. Cool stuff!

Wow. This sounds awesome. No-one has ever done this. Regular folk would take the fact that Ranulph Fiennes didn't make it as proof that it can't be done. Good luck Ben.
