MefiMusic Collaboration Challenge December 13, 2010 10:23 AM Subscribe
Welcome to the MeFiMusic January Collaboration Challenge Thread!
The challenge itself is simply to collaborate with another MeFite and create a musical work.
I haven't been posting all of the challenges here at MeTa, but the MeFiMusic regulars and myself thought it would be a blast to envite EVERYBODY for this one!
Post in this thread if you would like to participate. If you have already signed up in this previous post you have been counted.
All names will be drawn from a hat in pairs. In 3 or 4 days I'll post a list of teams who will work together to make some music.
So, sign up, make a friend and make some music!

Is this offer open to people who have only rudimentary singing powers and absolutely no musical talent on any instrument whatsoever? I'd love to participate but I hate the idea that being partnered with me would totally fuck over somebody who wants to make legitimate music.
OTOH, I'm a dab hand with Cool Edit Pro (I'm also old as dirt!) and quite creative. If there were a "bonus pool" for people who have already been teamed with a "real" musician and want to collaborate with a weirdo on the side, that would be great.

I am in, so long as my partner is cool with the fact that my only musical talent is singing. (I can, perhaps, also play a maraca, or a kazoo.) Is that kosher?

You might want to make sure that at least one person of the pair has some recording/mixing knowhow.

Sure, I'm in! And I hope I get paired with one of you singing types.

I totally understand worrying about being mismatched or feeling behind the curve regarding recording and file sharing etc. but don't worry about it too much. You don't have to be highly skilled to be creative and have some fun.
unSane comments about sending files in the MeFiMusic mirror of this post. It's nothing too difficult and as he mentions, at the very least, you can send a simple wav file to your partner. Ofcourse, if neither of you have mixing capability, just let me know, yep MeMail me, and I'll try to hooked up with someone who does.

I've collaborated on a sequence of emails that culminate in not receiving any recordings from the other person, repeatedly. It's jolly fun.

I am only barely talented but I have a good sense of humor and a lot of free time. I'm in!

Ping! Count me in.
Apparently I make educational music, and I also play guitar and tambourine and shtuff.

Can play some guitar and write words that scan. Can't sing and have a paucity of actual recording equipment (might be able to bludge some, though). I'm in.

I can't tell if you're wanting to be included or not...
Anyway I'll throw my hat in as well.
Maybe I'll get paired with another obsessive lyricist who can't really play any instrument properly!
Maybe I'll get serious and actually get my good microphone set up. Probably not though so don't get excited.

I guess I should have noted above that I don't really play any musical instruments or have mixing experience, but I'm not afraid to sing and I can write lyrics and come up with interesting ideas.
Here is my previous collaboration, which cortex then turned into this.
Maybe you pair off from two hats - one for music regulars and one for those just jumping in?

I too would very much like to participate.
I can provide some guitar, piano, drums and singing, but not too much editing and mixing skills (though perhaps some if absolutely necessary).

Sparx, this whole shindig is for the January Music Challenge. We just started it up a little early since it might be a little time consuming.

Understood. It's the three or four days aspect I'm keen on working out. Some of us need a big run up (by which I mean me)

Sparx, now that it turns out we're paired, don't fret -- I do a lot of songfighting and work very quickly, so that should offset any big run up on your end.
