Do we need this point and laugh thread? This guy doesn't appear to be well, and I'm not sure that our relentless mockery is necessary or helpful.

What do you mean by "doesn't appear to be well" in this context? He's been running this business with equally poor judgment for years; the sex doll thing is just the newest wrinkle in his parade of sleaze and incompetence. Here's a thread about this business from AbsoluteWrite.com that goes back to 2004.

This is this man's actual business website, which he's used to convince people to give him money for professional services for several years. I think that it's fair game.

Yeah. While I am, as always, not a fan of the first-person editorializing at the end, I think it's fine otherwise. He is "well" enough to run a straight-up scam of a business.

Yes, we do.

I'm weighing in on the fine side as well. If you want to argue we shouldn't be shining a light on a scammer then I am with you, but the no CrazyLOLS, eh, that's a weird call to make. Almost every day a post goes up about someone that's a complete nutter in my book and we sometimes sit around and admire it.

But then I am biased, since one of my CrazyLOL posts didn't survive.

Before he had the sex doll on the website, he had a ridiculous 'AI' thingie that answered questions. The answers included patently false information like "all agents charge fees to their clients" and "it's impossible for unknowns to break into the business without paying fees to their agents."

Not crying a single glycerin emo tear for humanity?

Part of the reason that I posted this is that whatever personal issues he may or may not have, the man is a rip-off artist. Maybe he has issues with his "virtual representative", maybe he actually thinks he can swing a movie deal (Honestly, it couldn't be worse than films that have made the theaters, and I've seen people peddling worse ideas), and maybe it's a diversion. Either way it's a perfect example of some of the sleazy types that prey on people desperate to be published.

And Sidhedevil, thanks for that link. I'm sorry I missed that in making my post.

I am completely happy with mocking the scummy con-artist.

I don't at all get the impression that this fellow is unbalanced in the way you suggest, leotrotsky. My takeway from reading the links is that he has this gimmick idea for a movie that he's trying to promote, and that he also likes to make easy money as a "literary agent," despite never having sold a book, and apparently not even reading material submitted [from Sidhedevil's link].

From the last video on his main page: The time, effort and expense involved in pitching a known author is minimal, while pitching an unknown to a skiddish industry requires much more.

Mocknicks: Pitching an unknown to a skiddish industry.

He appears to be actively seeking attention via the internet. What sort of attention, however, is kinda out of his hands at this point.

To allude to an existing metatalk, literary agents is one class of people about which I could imagine writing "I want to punch them in the face."
I am not advocating for either the punching of the writing about punching.

Helpfulness and needfulness are not prerequisites for a Metafilter post.

True. If he posted an AskMe "How can I get my sex doll a movie contract?" then we would have to be helpful.

Or run sobbing in terror to the mods.
