Need help finding a comment about a math-related career. February 9, 2011 12:34 PM   Subscribe

I'm looking for a comment about someone's career that involved some type of figuring out a business' finances. I think it was in AskMe.

I want to say it was in answer to a question about the OP giving X number of people X number of pictures, and a way to calculate how many pictures he'd given each person. I could be totally wrong about that, though.

Basically the answer went, "I could be doing X all day, but I do Y for this company and I love it." I saw the comment late last year but I don't remember when it was posted.

I found the photos-question and it isn't in there.

It's this question, right? But as you say, the answer you remember isn't in there. Can you remember any more details about the comment?

I could remember more if my brain didn't muddle finance/economics/math together. I think the person was talking about helping companies with some type of risk management or problem involving money; making all the numbers come together/make sense.

Something about your question reminds me of allkindsoftime talking about supply chain management and logistics.

If it's risk management, you are probably trying to think of actuaries. They're the people who mathematically assess risk, especially in insurance and finance.

Awesome comment by allkindsoftime, but the one I'm looking for was a lot shorter.

It might've been a response to a thread about law school.

Is this really a Meta question, or is it an Ask question? (Not complaining, don't care per se, just curious and still trying to figure out how this place works.)

It is question about finding something that was previously posted here, so yes it belongs in Metatalk. When I put this into Google, I get ten pages of results: "and I love it" law site:ask.metafilter.com
Maybe you could take a look through them and see if anything catches your eye.

I should have mentioned that "and I love it" wasn't actually in there, that was just me paraphrasing. Butyeah, I've searched forever for this and can't seem to find it. Consider me stumped. xD

I was going to make a snarky comment about reading the damn (long!) FAQ or the Wiki, but actually I just searched both of those and didn't see 'when you know you read something somewhere on the site and now you can't find it, post your question to MeTa' anywhere. Guess I'm off to go suggest it get added to the FAQ.

Also, biochemist, I am sorry but you are really not ringing a bell here. I read AskMe pretty thoroughly and man, that's a tough one. Whoever eventually figures it out gets a cookie for sure.
