How come nobody's posted this?

It came up in the Angry Birds thread. Is it getting posted and then deleted, or has nobody felt like posting it? Seems worthy of a post...it's scary/exciting new google activity...3G netbook for $20/month...

Or is this old news?

I find that kind of post to be useless news-filter, advertisement-filled garbage myself, and they're a very long way from being the best of the web.

But!

A lot of people disagree with me. If we can have an ipad 2 post, I don't see why we can't have a google netbook post.

I don't know. I'm sure the mods do.

metafilter is not a news site, etc etc.

It's kind of old news, I guess. Meh. Wait until something actually happens and/or gets released, rather than posting about the announcement that they're going to be announcing something.

Cause nobody much gives a crap about notebooks? Google was giving away Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablets at Google IO, that's what the cool kids are into.

A case can be made the Google Chrome Notebooks mark a major change in the way business will handle equipment in the future. It's also the most interesting news to come out of GoogleCon. I'm too busy to make a decent post or I'd do it.

I thought it was news boycott over the lack of the Caps Lock key.

And face the possibility of harsh backlash? Obviously nzero took the safer route by coming to MetaTalk.

m@f: " And face the possibility of harsh backlash?

At worst nzero gets hauled into Meta. At best, he gets "great post!" comments.

Either way, he gets a do-over in 24 hours.

Obviously nzero took the safer route by coming to MetaTalk."

Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

I say, take a leap and see what happens. More fun that way!

Huh? I don't know what you're talking about. It would appear that nobody didn't post it.

I think that you'll find that the list of things that haven't been posted is pretty long, nzero.

Back in the dot-com bubble days, one could rent a computer cheaply, when subsidized with a dial-up plan. This is basically the same business model as in the late 1990s. The only things new here are the inclusion of 3G wireless and a little-used operating system with a small base of applications.

Businesses can't run Office on these thin clients, so they are of little use there. Students could run them, but the selection of applications is so limited, compared with other options. A student could put a laptop on a credit card and pay a comparable monthly price, and be able to run Linux, OS X or Windows, to be able to do work and share it with others more easily.

This device might be successful, but there need to be more applications to facilitate the kind of work that the target market will be doing.

This is MetaTalk this is not MetaFilter lite. Feel free to make a post about it if you'd like to talk about it. There is certainly no mod conspiracy to not have a post about it.
