So I've sent out my MefiSwap mixes... has anyone else done the same? Or did this idea lose all accompanying interest?

Whoa whoa whoa!

I'm signed up there, but all I've received so far was one email saying little more than "stay tuned". Is something wrong with the email-out system? argh!

I got a 5-person mail list on April 8. Don't know much more than that...

Working on mine...I'm slow but thorough....

Marquis- I got my list on the 8th as well. Maybe emailing Deviant would be the thing to do?

I've got my list, but I'm waiting until Saturday to do the CD's (as I have to burn them at work)... I promise plenty of Indie Rock, and for more known bands, rare versions of the hits...

I got my list and figured out a couple of Metafilter names, so I could customize the cd. Some people I couldn't find anything on. What do people think about knowing which Metafilterian you're burning for? Is there a list in here I don't know about?

I wish I could participate but I missed the official sign-up period. I have very eclectic tastes that would startle and horrify and perhaps delight the average Metafilterarian. When's the next one?

Some responses in the original thread. Mine should be in the mail tomorrow.

What's funny is that off my 5 swapees, 3 are located outside the country in which I am located. I didn't expect the international slant in this swap to be that huge. :)

Any plans on doing this again? I missed the first round too.

I sent my five out yesterday. Grabbingsand, I believe I'll be getting one from you, right? I didn't try to customize my mix for the people getting it. I did a mix of stuff I like. If the copies I sent out end up being used as coasters, I'm okay with that.

I would like to have known the MeFi identities of my five charges, but all I got were the real names, addresses and email addys. One of the addresses is only a mile or two from my house, but the "real name" submitted was a pseudonym, and without their MeFi name, well, they are just as much of a mystery as someone living 200 miles away...

evanizer & anathema: I could do with some delightful horrification, so contact me off list MeFi if either of you would be up for some one to one swapping. (Peer to Peer, eh?)

maurice: Yep. You are one of my victims recipients. Hope you dig it.

I found the website of one of my five guys and found it pretty fucking indimidating. I wonder if I'll show him anything he doesn't know. But it is a very cool site, probably worth one or two front page MeFi posts at least. Which I guess I just prevented. Anyway, I burned my disk last night, I'll dupe it tonite, and out the door they go by Saturday.

What's everybody doing in terms of packaging/artwork? I think I'm going to put the disk in a paper slip case and maybe enclose a jewelbox insert card with the tracklisting.

What's everybody doing in terms of packaging/artwork?

I used slim jewel cases with a simple cover and track list.

I have my list of victims, sorry....recipients - but I am travelling for work at the moment - back at the weekend where I will make some progress....

It was nice to get names from outside the UK...

I'm interested in being part of the next round. Went to the site, but didn't see a way to sign up as a new user.

Damn. I was all gung-ho to do this (and signed up on one of the orginal lists here), but then I remembered that my burner is out of service until I do some serious upgrading to the home PC (hard drive, etc.). Then I remembered I have to pay many bills before I can do the upgrade....

Hopefully this will become a "regular thing" and those of us who miss the first tound (or two) can jump into the rotation later.

This was a great idea.
I can't wait to knock mine out this weekend. All five in the mail first thing monday morning.
It would be cool to do a follow up with picking the best of the five you get and sending out five copies of that one.
Mucho thanks to deviant and jpoulos for putting this together so quickly.

I sent mine out with slim jewel cases, and a simple printed tracklist, packed in a bubble wrap lined mailer.

I can only figure out one person's MeFi name on my list. I guess I should just email them and ask :)

i've got my list and a rudimentary playlist with everything from astrud gilberto to underworld. of course, that's subject to change since the playlist i've got today and the one i started on [see: mos def, tom jones, faith no more] when i first heard about the project are very different. i think the folks i've got in my list are in for a treat.

i'll probably dodge responsibilty at work today and burn off some cd's. i should have them in the mail by monday at the latest. if i get a wild hair up my butt i may make a bonus disc, because 80 minutes really isn't enough...

So can we list our tracklists here, you know so even the people who didn't get the CDs kinda get an idea of what everyone sent out? How about we list the tracklists once we know for sure that all five people receiving the CDs have got their copies.

must have somehow missed the initial round signups. I'd love to play too, if it happens again.

Well, it's starting to look like the people on my list are going to be getting tapes unless my burner is miraculously healed somehow. My most profuse apologies to my homeland and loved ones...
I like riffola's idea about posting track lists, as long as it is done after everybody recieves their copies. Half the fun is in the surprise of new & unexpected music, IMO.

I emailed Deviant about this a couple of days ago -- was he planning on adding any more content to the MeFi swap site? He was crunched for time and couldn't do anything right away other than the signup/swap assignment functionlity, but seemed open to adding more. If he's game, I think that site would be a better place for message boards, tracklist repository, Swap news, etc. than MetaTalk. I feel kind of uncomfortable doing this here and mathowie would be justified in deleting, IMO.

i plan on sending mine out monday, when i actually get a chance to hit the post office, so my apologies if that's a little late for the people i got.. i've already written out my track list though... i feel sorry for whomever's getting my girliest-CDs-ever.

What is this, exactly? I seem to have missed the original thread, and the supplied link presents me with an unadorned login page. A CD swap sounds fun... where do I find out what this is about, and how would I sign up?

Mars, I linked the original thread above. The link was to a Weblogger swap, and in the discussion the idea for a MeFiSwap emerged. jpoulos and deviant then took charge, and deviant created the site. Once about 150+ people registered, he closed the registration.

Most likely there will be a round two soon, I'd say in a month or so.

I agree luser, I think future discussions should be held elsewhere. When registration opens up for round 2, we could have it mentioned on the events page.

I'm still working on the mix. It will be sent soon.

I will neither confirm or deny the presence of a song off the Labyrinth soundtrack on my CD.

Mine's 92% complete. I ordered a cd for the sole purpose of including it in my mix and now I have to wait for it to arrive. Tonight's project is laying out the liner notes.

I sent all of mine out on Tuesday.

As far as packaging goes, I did a nice little cover with a track list and a pic of a mosaic from a Brooklyn subway stop and just a track listing. One guy sent his mix with a track list, a very cool cover pic, and URLs for all the bands/artists on the mix - wish I'd thought of that!

This has been great - each of the cd's I've received has been very different from the others. One was sort of popcore, another just fun alterna-stuff with a few nifty cover songs thrown in, and the last was all very prog rock. So far I've received 3 of my 5 cd's. I'm hoping the other two people send theirs soon.

My lazy ass sent out the cd's today. I've yet to recieve any myself though. I guess that's the risk involved though. I did recieve an email from one other person saying there would be a delay on their mix so thats cool. I sent out mine in a slim jewel case minus cover art since i'm printerless but I posted a .pdf for the suckers who are unlucky enough to get my cd.

I'm curious to know if there are others out there who have yet to recieve cd's.

hi!
