Can I Post This? August 13, 2011 12:48 PM Subscribe
I was sent this by a friend and wondered if it would be ok to post to the front page.
On the downside:
1) its a short peice
2) I used to know Dr Mick Grierson, but it was a long time ago.
On the plus side, it talks about Dr who, and the method by which the synth works is frankly amazing.

did you try running this by a mod or another mefi first.
as to subject matter it is of interest if you tie in some other links relating to it. seems like a cool find BTW

If you're concerned about the length of the piece, it certainly contains enough references in the text that you could flesh out your own FPP a lot to make it into a fully three-dimensional post about synthesizers and such. Just off the top of my head, I see BBC Radiophonic Workshop, the Oram synth, and the original Dr Who theme (some of these may simply be Previously links, if memory serves) which could be used to help expand on your post.

Soooo, it was the French that unleashed the synthesizer on us. I knew they hated us.

But then they gave us Daft Punk!

The French are problematic for me. I suffered greatly in France, but their techno is the best.

That font is awful. I was wondering what a French Bam was. I mean that's just not a google term you search for on a work computer.

It seems more like the inspiration for a post. A great jumping off point for research. I mean, it's kind of cool on its own, but I bet if you spent some time lost in a synthesizer induced clicktrance you'll find some really, really cool shit.
Get fascinated.

Amazing find. It would be ironic if it becomes unusable due to a shortage of 35mm film strips, a visual tool. Luckily as long as we have audiophiles there will be no shortage of tubes.

The friendlinking proscription is less airtight than the self-linking one, but if the person was someone you knew well or someone you've worked with recently, or a family member or a close friend of a family member, it's not okay. This is also less important for famous type people who a lot of people may know in small amounts.
