"Strong Stuff" 2X? (Is this a subtle form of flaming?)
The first post I read as "Gosh, I just came across this article and couldn't believe what I was reading" from a poster that obviously was unaware of the Independent's anti-Semitic bias (just look through their list of articles), but then the same post is posted again? With the same neutral, gee-whiz tone? I've belonged to MeFi for a while now, and I've never seen something like this before. What is it? A sly attempt to push agenda, or just someone who can't get enough of the Middle East conflict?

There's no "point" really. I just found it really odd, and was wondering what other's reactions were.

After re-reading it I don't find anything malicious about it. I guess he just doesn't know the rule about double-posts. (*sigh) Matt please feel free to delete.

Everyone has their verbal tics, xammerboy. I use "moreover" too much, for example.
the Independent's anti-Semitic bias
Watch your use of the word "anti-Semitic": The Independent != Der Stürmer.
he just doesn't know the rule about double-posts
Nor do you, it seems. 57 comments (including yours) and no one called it out.

Yeah; I'm pretty much with the majority view, here. We all have our own distinctive 'voices' out here, and 'Strong Stuff' may just be one of his personal style marks. I think probably if you backpedaled through my FPPs you'd probably find a litter of personal catchphrases.

I have a habit of sometimes exclaiming, "Well, ding-dang dog my cats!" in my posts.
Please don't judge me.

I can't believe BlueTrain's such an angry drunk.
Seems so happy go lucky, normally.

Yeah, sorry...the night was more lame that I originally anticipated. I watched The Thomas Crown Affair just before we went out, and real life was a bit of a let down. I was just blowing off a little steam.

"Strong stuff" sounds like a relatively polite, concise way of pointing out that there's a lot of concern and wild speculation about exactly what happened in Jenin. For some reason, it seems to be awfully difficult for folks to get used to the idea that what people used to cluck over at the back fence as they hung out the laundry now zips back and forth around the world over phone lines and the Internet.
David Weinberger has a bit to say about "anti-semitism." Personally, I'm changing my lexicon to "critical of Israel" and "anti-Jewish."
It would be more informative if we started taking advantage of the weblog format to post links to opposing points of view rather than treating this as a chat room where news sources and viewpoints are routinely condemned as "anti-Semitic," "anti-American," "leftist", "right-wing", etc.
I'm sure I'm not the only one here who loses patience with listening to endless arguements and attempts to convince! I find it's much easier for me to determine the strengths of a particular viewpoint by looking at links to specific examples.

xammerboy: a poster that obviously was unaware of the Independent's anti-Semitic bias (just look through their list of articles)
Wow, you say that as if anyone in the know realises that the Independent is anti-semitic, whereas in fact it's probably the most centrist of the British broadsheets (it's about as far to the left as the Times is to the right). I've never heard anyone call it anti-semitic before now, and it's not as if anyone I know actually likes the paper. And to demonstrate this bizarre assertion you point to a list of perfectly unbiased articles - I mean they don't even have anti-Israeli bias. Bias is when you prejudge an issue, not when you report the facts and then make a judgement. It looks like the poster was trying to say: "Look, here's an unbiased source being harsh to Israel - interesting." That's how anyone with any familiarity with the Independent would read it (and similarly the BBC is famously unbiased - the fact that they write "strong stuff" about Israel is noteworthy). I love the fact that being unfamiliar with the paper yourself (presumably), you mock the poster for his ignorance. Charming.

This sounds like a call to turn MeFi into Memepool.
If MeFi were not meant to have discussion, it would not have threads.

my initial reaction was, "why does anyone care about this?" and so far I'm still at that.
