Saying thanks for the allergy guidance October 28, 2011 7:32 AM   Subscribe

Just wanting to say "Thank You."

A month ago, I posted a question about making my pantry allergen free. My husband has had to cut out gluten, soy and peanuts. I suspect onion and garlic may also be on his allergen list as well as guar gum and/or xanthum gum. He's waiting for his time with the allergist to find out for sure on those. In the meantime, I've been able to cut all the above out, restock the pantry and cook meals that are not making him ill. Since the post, he was also diagnosed with asthma and is now getting that under control too.

I just want to say thank you for all the food allergen related posts, the direct answers to my question and the links that everyone shared.

I've become tight friends with Bob and his Red Mill as hmo suggested I should. I've started to learn how to bake gluten-free and have even successfully made a couple loaves of bread from scratch. My shopping trips have gone down from 2 hours to a much more normal 45 minutes and we're all reading labels like never before. The kids haven't complained about the dietary changes and the food has been damn tasty. Most importantly, my husband's healing. He's not 100% yet but he is VASTLY improved. We both feel like we're still missing something which is why he's going to be seen soon by an allergist.

Thank you. You may feel like your response to my post or to other similar posts is small but it may, in fact, be giving crucial information or support which is changing lives for the better.

You did nothing wrong, we're just weirdos. Plus I just don't think I've read the word "pantry" in a while.

Husband's Nuts in panties would be a whole other AsKMe, I'd imagine.
