Maybe there could be some subtle visual indication (like the 'best answer' or OP comments in Ask) for comments that get sidebarred.

I bought it just because the whole thing with him showing up and all seemed so cool. I'm not a sci fi fan at all but I'll give it a shot!

I have been trying to do better on the sidebar. I think a little sidebar indicator might be neat but might be crufty. Will ask pb if he has some neat subtle indicator ideas.

Something small but tasteful and involving the use of background glitter.gif, perhaps.

This is the part where I embarrassingly say I don't look at the side-bar enough. So sorry for the duplication of notification.

It was neat to see Hugh show up and he's been very approachable and engaging in his responses to questions.

He seems like a clever fellow; I think he just picked up on MeFi's sig-less norms after a few comments.

He is very approachable, which isn't at all surprising since this story is basically "penniless writer in basement finally finds readers with weird little series." Anyway, when I made the FPP I tweeted him to let him know it was there, and when it was sidebarred I also let him know that, and tried to explain in 140 characters that being sidebarred is kind of A Big Deal. He was slightly baffled but delighted by both events.

MeFi takes getting used to as a culture and if he sticks around I'm sure he'll be grand. However, we do not want him to get used to MeFi's norms right now, as we want him to spend all his time finishing WOOL 5. Eyes on the prize, people. Priorities!

Anyway, I am glad he showed up and glad he was great and glad everyone was super-nice to him. And aside from all of that, it has been a happy MeFi event for me as well, since I rarely make FPPs and when I do, they generally suck. Yay!
