How is this deleted post any different from the current, non-deleted post on the subject?

Funny story: we didn't notice the first post originally. I stand by the characterization of the deletion and agree that the existing post that we totally missed isn't really any better, but once we got done slipping on banana peels we decided to just let the already-very-busy-thread stand instead getting into serious whackamole territory.

Ah, I had thought the deleted one had come first. Sally forth.

Man, what an awful comic strip that was. Is that thing still around?
posted by koeselitz at 1:35 PM on March 16, 2012 [1 favorite]

It's basically not. What cortex said. I would have preferred waiting but it didn't seem like a good idea to make that decision unilaterally and we're around so we can just watch the thread [and both MeTa posts it's spawned] instead.

Since this is here and I don't want to contribute to the derail over there and I don't want to flag everything in existence, is there any way to get members of this community to stop, please stop, stop acting like there is some sort of ideological battle to be waged between people who prefer to use the Mac OS and people who prefer not to?

Wow.. I don't know whether to read the original story, the retraction, Mike Daisey's response to the retraction, the deleted MeFi post about it, the still-standing MeFi post about it, the 'Previously' in the first comment on that post, the first MeTa about it, or-- Oh! the sun's out. Be right back.

ohohoh can someone link to the hilarious mod delete/undelete/delete thing that happened - a few mods were involved, they kept talking over each other accidentally and undoing and redoing? surely you know what i'm talking about...

Apparently it is still around. And now that I think of it, it wasn't really that bad. I think I was confusing it with Cathy.

nadawi, I believe it was here. Known as the "keystone kops" incident.

Plutor's comment in that thread will never fail to get a laugh out of me.

Was cortex staff during the Keystone Cops thing? He doesn't have a staff badge.

Guys, I'm sorry.

Looks like he'd started working here a few months earlier. I'll ask pb about that.
posted by jessamyn (staff) at 2:26 PM on March 16, 2012

I think pb may have set the badge date to when I was first officially Okay For Realsies hired, but it might make more sense to have it Feb 27 2007, yeah.
posted by cortex (staff) at 2:41 PM on March 16, 2012

Yeah, we went with hire dates on the staff icons but cortex started helping as a volunteer earlier. I moved it.

There was this guy who tilted at windmills and and had a racial stereotype sidekick. Your attempt to get people to stop fighting the ideologue wars would be like this story, but with better graphic design (well at least on the part of the people using the Mac OS).

God please make it stop. I use Macs, and everyone I know does, for about 15 years. I just work in that kind of field. I’ve barely even seen a Windows computer in that time. Rarely do I or any of my friends or co-workers sit around cackling and rubbing our hands together, laughing at the fools who use Windows, and belittling the size of their genitals. According to the internets this is a requirement, or at least an unavoidable consequence of buying a Mac.

I don’t care what kind of computer you use (as long as you don’t call it a PC).

I just hope that, whether we love Apple or hate Apple, we can all agree that shakespearean is a filthy heretic who must be destroyed so we can go back to fighting each other.

Indeed. I was particularly fond of the question whether "Mac fans" would now no longer believe even substantiated allegations of worker abuses because this one story was false. Because evidently every last one of us is completely credulous and has never cracked a book in his life.

Can I come work with you? 24 years of Mac OS. 5 or 6 of Windows. I know a bunch of Unixy stuff and web techs. Windows 7 is the first MS OS I don't hate with a passion and get all stabby about. I still won't go so far as to say I dislike it, but if she were the last woman at the party without a partner, if I had my choice, she would still be dancing alone.

Sally Forth is fantastic, as evidened by Ted's insane story in the Sunday strip today.
