Is this a good place to mention that I was halfway through watching the series Party Down when all of a sudden a light bulb went off in my head and I yelled "HOLY SHIT THAT'S BILL HAVERCHUCK!" at the TV?

No? Ok then. Carry on.

Aw crap. Am I actually going to have to buy him a beer now? Can we at least wait until payday?

Mefi's own Lea Sheppard. Awesome.

Who said I work for Shaw?

(I don't work for Shaw. And I won't discuss who I do work for.)

Hello, all.

I love Shaw Cable.

I... I don't think those words have ever been spoken, written or thought of before.

Hi! Welcome to MeFi.

Somehow I radically misread the meta post at first and thought he'd been hired as another mod and thought "Well, that's weird. Cool, but weird."

Frames of reference exist in which Shaw Cable has its merits.

The time I spent studying my summoning spells is not time spent in vain, it seems. *flourishes cloak*

Sorry, Karlos, but only Richard Clayton knows the incantation to summon me. I came here on my own.

I have one question for Mr. Sheppard.

Is playing Mass Effect a really strange experience for you?
posted by The Whelk at 3:46 PM on June 14, 2012 [1 favorite]

No, not really. I tend to register Sheppard as a different name from Shepard.

We must fight with knives!

You know, this was the first time I read an article about someone and thought to myself, "Yeah, he's going to become a Mefite after this."

Little did I know Stephen would instantly become an awesome Mefite.

This is probably my only chance to tell someone directly involved with making Freaks and Geeks what an amazing show it was. So:

Stephenls, Freaks and Geeks was one of the best things I've ever seen on TV, and I want to say thank you for helping make it so.

Oh, and welcome to Metafilter!

Me too. Stephenls - thanks to you and everyone else who had anything to do with that show for effectively ruining most of the rest of television for me.

Seriously, though, welcome to the community, we hope you'll stick around. Thanks for being a voice against bullying.

Sure OK, but traditionally the challenge 'round these parts is broadswords in a pit.

I wonder how he found us. Perhaps he has a rare disorder combining symptoms of amnesia, dyslexia, and color-blindness, with a highly acute sense of hearing.

Damnit.
I have never seen the Freaks and Geeks D&D ep (F&G was dropped here early on), and I have been saving it for just the right time.

This may be the right time.

Dooooooooo iiiiiiiiiiiiit, Mezentian. I can't believe you've waited this long.

I lent my Freaks and Geeks DVDs to a friend who a) kept talking about he wanted to understand the American high school experience and b) was laid up for awhile recovering from surgery. We watched a few episode together, and then I left them with him. He was disciplined -- every few days or so I'd get a comment about how an episode made him laugh or tore his heart out, and it took several weeks before the final cry: "Nooooooo!!! There are no more! I have to know what happens next!"
