Search page options May 8, 2002 10:28 PM   Subscribe

For the search page, how about at least one more option: in the past 3 months. Maybe it's just me, but I seem to always be using it to find threads that are approximately six weeks old. A minor coding change, a major performance change.

This would be very nice. Three months just about covers the unacceptable-double-post-period. One month is really not enough.

That said, I find that the Google search more or less kicks in where the MeFi one-month search leaves off. So it would be convenient, though not strictly necessary - if it was almost as fast and reliable as the current MeFi search and, of course, didn't time out too much.

it's probably trivial to implement. matt's mentioned in the past that his metafilter searches are brute-force (they literally go through every thread of every day), so all that would have to happen is that matt add some code to stop past an ending date. searches would still be intensive on the system, but for shorter periods of time i think.
