By the way, what's your take on crop circles?

And so the day has come that truth is stranger than MetaFilter.

Do I get any props for being the first one to take the idea seriously?

Very good eye, Kevin, do you have any background in a visual field? I did not get that at all from that graphic.

Kev, there's this smoking man at the door who wants to talk to you. Says he's with the government. Are you in?

Hey Kevin, some of these?

Now the smiley emoticon can pull double duty, meaning either "Just kidding!" or "You make me want to go on a weekend-long cross-country bombing spree."

> I need that report by tomorrow.

Sure boss, it'll be done in a jiffy! :)

For those who, like me, wanted to see the pattern, and use a moldy old showbiz phrase "heeeeere's Quonsar."

So what do we call this guy?

Smile-a-bomber?

Ya know Voyageman; my head exploded after trying the the first two. Just chalk my observation up to dumb luck :)

Props to quonsar & yhbc.

Update:

I just got interviewed by the Omaha World Herald re: my comments on MetaFilter. This is getting weirder by the minute.

skallas: "shhhh." You're ruining the moment.

Kevin: I know the gang over at Fark were making the observation, too - but do you know if yours was first? Did you get any idea from the reporter?
posted by yhbc at 2:05 PM on May 9, 2002

Hmm. Not sure. I'm sure other people besides me made the observation but frankly I was a little rattled when he called. Didn't think to ask.

Excellent, good on you, Kevin. As we would say back home, eeeenjoooy, yaar.

Well, FWIW, I still give you the boobie prize.

I'm sorry, I couldn't resist

Here's the story as it appears in the Omaha World Herald. I'm sort of pissed they didn't mention MeFi because I name dropped like an out-of-work screen writer. Oh well.

I now declare my 15 minutes officially up. Thanks for obliging my ego.

A "chat room"?

A *#!##*@!&%! "CHAT ROOM" !!!!!?????
posted by yhbc at 7:50 PM on May 9, 2002

Oh, okay - sorry. It's just that my wife is always asking me "are you on your little chat room again?" and I have to bite my tongue with her - but a newspaper ... aaah.

Kudos again, Kevin; at least they spelled your name right!
posted by yhbc at 7:59 PM on May 9, 2002

yhbc- my better half knows enough to refer to MeFi as a weblog, although It was interesting listening to her try to explain what that is exactly, to her 84-year-old mother tonight. She even knows a few of you by name. So technically I suppose dong_resin, eyeballkid, iconomy and unclefes are houshold names now. Yay!!

and Kevin, now that you're famous, don't make us limbo under the velvet rope to meet you, OK.
posted by jonmc at 8:50 PM on May 9, 2002

Noting a lack of mathematical prowess, Skomsvold said they will remain unsolved.

You rock. Free Kevin!

perhaps Luke read the thread in MeFi and thought it was a better responce than "I like things that go boom!"

I don't wanna be a household name!
I need my fuckn' street cred, man!

I didn't name myself after smegma to play to grannies in the fly-over states, damnit!
posted by dong_resin at 5:59 AM on May 10, 2002

Don't worry, it's not like "dong_resin" rolls off the tongue.
