Vetinari's long term plan March 4, 2013 4:04 PM Subscribe
There was a wonderful speculative post in some thread on the blue about Vetinari's plan for Ankh Mopork and I can't find it for the life of me.
Please help.
Not that one, MonkeyToes. It was ridiculously involved and Machiavellian yet somehow deeply humanistic. And involved descendants, IIRC.
Within the last two years, for sure.

Nope. It didn't have Moist as his successor, and involved Carrot's son/daughter somehow.

Terry Pratchett had just given an interview about his extreme ill health and how he was planning to pass the series on to his daughter. His work has meant a lot to me over the years -- I suspect I'm not the only person on this thread who feels that way.
Happily, Pratchett ain't dead yet.

Hm, that's not quite the right sentiment given that Pratchett's an activist for the right to die. I'm glad his life is still worth living.

Oh hey, in case you're interested, they made a correction to the 'passing the series on to his daughter' comment just recently.
"Some of the newspapers have reported that Rhianna Pratchett will take over writing Discworld novels after Terry stops. Rhianna and Terry actually meant that Rhianna is well placed to concentrate on co-writing the adaptations for Narrativia and working on spin off works because of her in depth knowledge of Discworld. Rhianna has no plans to write Discworld novels as she feels Discworld these should remain her father's legacy"

She's quite right to take that position, I think.

The motto on his coat of arms may be the funniest joke that ever brought a tear to my eye: "Noli Timere Messorem."
DON'T FEAR THE REAPER.

I think that's for the best. No matter how good she is, the comparison to her father would not be fair to her.

The motto on his coat of arms...
What a gorgeous design! Lots of Discworld motifs but not the tiniest bit "novelty"-looking. Respect.
The wikipedia article on Pterry leads you to the College of Arms (Est. 1484)'s online newsletter(!). They also have a website, which can get wonderfully snippy

Here's the description of the coat of arms:
The Arms are blazoned: Sable an ankh between four Roundels in saltire each issuing Argent.Okay, so:
The Crest is Upon a Helm with a Wreath Argent and Sable On Water Barry wavy Sable Argent and Sable an Owl affronty wings displayed and inverted Or supporting thereby two closed Books erect Gules.
- motto = reference to Death
- books = books
- ankh and owl = Ankh-Morpork
- water barry = polluted River Ankh? Or "land under wave"?
- roundels = discs
Happily, Pratchett ain't dead yet.
