Frenchmen dance in high heels to the Spice Girls is as fabulous as it sounds. I would so break my ankle.

That was a really enjoyable one; thanks. It's made me go back and look at a few threads anew.

On Jessamyn's recommendation, for Mathowie; John Oliver on the Daily Show this last few days:

- The Royal Baby [1] and [2]
- Anthony Weiner [1] and [2]
- Aluminium hoarding [1] and [2]
- Detroit
- Interview with Louis C.K.

I assumed 2nd Bar/Bat Mitzvah must be to celebrate moving backwards from independent adulthood back to needing diapers & pureed food, etc.

Was very pleased to discover my assumption was incorrect!

I am seriously considering it, just not sure if it makes me look stuck up. But speaking of that, I am on my way to a meetup this morning (which is why I am awake at this stupid hour) and am stoked that the podcast is up because now I can listen to it while I drive. That's right, the podcast that I recorded less than 24 hours ago, that is like 33% me. It's a sickness, I tell you.

Fine, I'll start listening to the damn thing! Are you happy now?

Sorry about the outburst. My alarm just went off to get dressed for work. It's hard not to do that to Powerglove's version of Mortak Kombat.

Jessamyn, if you want to see a movie with two women who talk to one another, go see The Heat! It was great. Really, seriously great, and I don't even like Sandra Bullock at all.

Oh, yeah, I noticed that you were all mangling 'cototient'. 'totient' and 'quotient' rhyme.

For reference, on that "puking on the train" thing, Griphus threw up because he was hung over, and Cortex and Griphus brought up the anecdote in the context of "What are the police going to do, arrest you for it?" which got me thinking "Huh. There are some weird laws in different places. It's illegal to sleep outside in certain places. It's legal to go topless in certain places. There are even places where it's illegal to be drunk outside. I wonder if there actually is a law against throwing up on the NY subway system."

Some folks pointed out that maybe "public intoxication", so I'd love to be able to ask the followup question of, "Ok, so if you throw up on the train due to a hangover, does that count as public intoxication, or is that legally treated as post-intoxication?" (Also, the Japanese word for "hangover" is "second-day drunk", which makes the issue even muddier in my mind).

Also, for some reason, I didn't put two and two together to realize that "public intoxication" also included indoors places, I always thought of it as "drunk in a park or walking down the street". So now I've got a whole raft of questions about what indoor locations you can be drunk in, and which you can't.

Also, if you get drunk in a bar (legal), and you have a designated driver, and the car is parked around the corner, could you be arrested for public intoxication as your sober friend walks you down the block to the car?

Also, the involuntariness argument totally makes sense, but then I wonder "So pooping on the train platform is illegal...but what about sudden diarrhea? That's not really controllable. Would that be legal or illegal?"

Also, this is why it's good that you can only ask AskMe questions once per week, because otherwise I reckon about 50% of the site would be "Bugbread asking trivial legal questions."
posted by Bugbread at 4:12 PM on July 27, 2013 [3 favorites]

Oh there's nothing trivial about any of that.

Never have done, 68 FPPs in. Note to self: perhaps make FPPs less dull, more 'grabbing'. Or just continue doing FPPs for the heck of it.

... if you want to see a movie with two women who talk to one another, go see The Heat!

Oh please! The film cost over 40 million to make, which it made back in its first weekend and has so far only grossed $160 million. Clearly this epic failure proves nobody would pay to see two or more women who talk to each other!

I work on Google Maps (on the data serving side, so my team's servers are part of both the old and new systems.) And yep, looks like the first concrete-arrow link works on the old maps and not on the new.

Cool ethand, I was wondering if I was doing something wrong when the link didn't work for me.

I like the new maps in general, the only thing that drives me batty is the zoom UI shifted from the upper left to the lower right, and my muscle memory kicks me in the head every time I use it.

I posted the Ducktales thing, and apologize if it squicked anyone out. It just seemed so obviously over the top - and ducks are such really weird animals - that it amused me.

So: glad to make the podcast again, sorry to anyone who found it icky.

So, finally listened to it. I'm sorry that I was awed by your Google Greatness. Actually, I thought maybe you just knew it off the top of your head, or that you knew the exact site to cite for it.

You have to admit, good cognitive ability wasn't exactly a common thing after watching that much duck shit flying around the screen.
