Metafilter Youtube Rolling Playlist? December 14, 2013 2:36 PM   Subscribe

I want to see all of the metafilter-linked youtube videos in a single Youtube playlist.

Here is a list of all the youtube playlist search results for 'Metafilter'. It looks like 200 is the max, so it would be a rolling playlist. Automated by scraping metafilter? If this is not done, I can try to figure it out, shouldn't be too hard. Should I open a project in MeFi Projects? Anyone wanna help?

I'd help. Let me know what's involved.

YouTube does this. Here's their MetaFilter Channel. This list is auto-generated by YouTube somehow. Maybe using referrers? I'm not sure how it works, but it pulls YouTube videos linked from MetaFilter.

That is amazing. My feeble attempts at time management are forever doomed, but whatever.

I came to make a comment about how pb's powers of pony-request answering could only reach so far.

I am embarrassed and proud to have been preemptively schooled.

Wow. I just subscribed to it. And I had no idea there were that many YT videos linked in posts. There's way more than I notice. I guess it's been a long time since I read every post. Ah, well.

it appears that the YouTube Metafilter channel may only pull videos that are above the fold, and possibly only one from each post even then? My current post links to several videos and playlists, and two are before the [more inside] but only one of them is listed.

This is an evil and diabolical pony that subsists uniquely on a diet of hay and ALL OF YOUR FREE TIME EVER.

This is really neat! I like how they link back to the original Metafilter post as well.

I think it just picks the first video linked to in the entire post. I made a post about the moon a few days ago with a couple YouTube links below the fold (none above). And the channel just picked the first one.

That's pretty awesome. I had no idea Youtube did that automatically.

Does Youtube do this for all domains over a certain amount of traffic? If so, is there a way to find it for a specific domain?

I don't know, codacorolla. But you might try searching Google for "youtube [site name] channel". If you do that with 'metafilter', the YouTube channel is the first result.
