Awesome comment for debt validation letter? February 16, 2014 9:42 AM Subscribe
Hi all, I'm looking for a killer comment I saw once that had the whole content of what I believe was a debt validation letter? It included quotes from the various laws. It was badass! Now I can't find it... Do you guys know it?
FWIW, I have been getting letters for a copay that was already paid... the collectors seemingly haven't been notified of the original payment...Grrr!
Thanks!

Yes, that's it! Thank you! :)

My pleasure -- I've never been a badass before. (There's more info about the FDCPA here that can be useful.) Good luck!

Alternative: pin the debt collector down and tickle him.

Hey, I've used that letter. I never heard back from the collectors so I can't say it was unqualified success, but at least one of my credit reports is clear now (I just pulled it last week for other reasons). So thank you, scody--you're pretty badass in my book!

What I like best about this is that if I ever need to use this letter, I will probably find it by searching for "scody badass letter" as that's what I'll remember.

Ditto. "Scody badass" is not hard to remember.

In case it might be helpful, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (consumerfinance.gov, created in response to the financial crisis) has a collection of similar sample letters for responding to debt collectors. The sample letter "I need more information about this debt" is particularly thorough.
