OK, I get the message. You can register on the site now, but squad selection does not start until June 8. I will set up a league for us on that day and then make another post here with the details.

I couldn't figure out my bench, so I just started going with the top cheap players from countries where I'd traveled, whose flag I liked, or whose cuisine I liked.
I have an awful lot of Greek players on my bench.

I have until tomorrow to finish my team right? I'm having trouble keeping under budget. It seems like there's no way to do it without an entire Iranian/Honduran midfield.

Yeah, my bench are all <3M Hondurans and Algerians. I also can't see needing more than 2 Keepers, so go bottom of the barrel on that 3rd Keeper. You can see a countdown until rosters are locked on the transfers page.

well my team is picked, but admittedly mostly by my partner. I was over in budget by 10 million and could NOT make the cuts needed so I asked for advice. Next thing I know, my team looks drastically different... I guess that would have been the case either way if I had chopped all my stars to get to the spending limit.

I've joined, although I think my account might be borked? I don't see the group in "My Leagues", each time I want to find it I have to click the link in this thread again [or search for mefi]. That doesn't seem right?
On the bright side most of my lineup doesn't play until the end of the week, so I can sit back knowing I've probably fucked up and can't do anything about it \o/

The interface does stink.
If this is your first time playing on a fifa site, you can make roster changes day-to-day. For example, you want to have your side stacked with the people who have games early in the phase/round, and replace them with players who have yet to play. I just benched a Columbian midfielder who did not play and subbed in a Honduran player whose game has not happened yet.
While the is kind of cool, the terrible interface makes it difficult to align the schedule with your lineup. It was better two years ago for the UEFA cup.

Quick Tip: Note that round 2 starts today, before round 1 ends. To set up your pitch for round 2 (i.e. to make sure your Brazilian and Mexican players are on before 3pm today) click on the tiny "2nd Group Phase" link above your pitch.

That's purely luck. I didn't figure out that I could change captains until halfway through, and I didn't have a lot of choices left by that time, so I chose Mueller. I'm going to be a Bayern fan for life now.

Last World Cup, Mueller won the golden boot (most goals) with 5 goals. Currently he and four other players already have 3 goals a piece. This is going to be a high scoring cup.

The offside broke my heart. That was a great game. There's something awesome about a team and their fans having such a good time. I was really hoping for Ghana to pull it out.
