Hi everybody! I'm in the midst of a self-imposed MeFi break so that I can work on a couple of large projects in my professional life (it frees up a ...surprising...amount of time). But I had to log back in to say thank you for these well wishes.
Lipstick Thespian and I would not be together now if there were no MetaFilter. He has a great story about how he discovered the place - dragged to a meetup by a MeFite friend in something like 2005, being introduced to a strange culture where people went by handles, wrote shout-outs, made obscure references and talked internet slang. We met and became friends via MetaChat and took it from there, beginning a long-distance relationship that led to a cross-country move and eventually a shared household. It's been a long (nearly 8 year) road to marriage, due to one life change and another as we moved, changed jobs, and weathered the economic storms of 2008-9, but all that time allowed us to grow together and build the community we were blessed to bring together at our wedding.
It was a beautiful day in a beautiful place. Because it's useless without pictures, here are a couple snaps - our official shots aren't back yet so these phone shots are all I've got to share right now.
This was an overwhelming and awe-inspiring experience which provided lots of reflection on the meaning of our relationships in life - really, truly, the only thing that much matters in the end. Lots of those great relationships are here, with friends I've met and haven't met and still hope to meet - so it's especially kind of all of you to share your well wishes and of jokeefe to make note of the occasion. I wish for all of you the same joy we've partaken of.
And Divine Wino - we are so down with that. Would love to meet you and share of the food of the Cape.
Miss you all, and hope to be back before long, but I MUST do my work! All the best.

That sounds like a recipe for a hell of a good marriage. I'm just some random internet dude but I wish you both all the happiness you can stand. Mazel tov, congratulations, félicitations, and all those other words that don't even come close to accurately conveying what a wonderful thing this is to see; I can't even begin to imagine how you two feel right now.

Totally disagree with all forms of "marriage", and the celebration of this obscure and frightening rite can only lead to the inevitable destruction of our society.
As scripture tells us, love and marriage go together "like a horse and carriage". But today we all have cars, which are faster and more efficient. So too, marriage is "yesterday's technology", and is in fact the slowest method we know of growing old together with someone special.

That's it, quidnunc kid. Someday I'll get married, and somehow that wedding will have to involve *giant magnets*. In the meantime though, I'll settle for being happy that Miko + LT (whom I also met at various Boston meetups once upon a time) have gone this happy route (magnets or no). Congrats, y'all!
