Comment about dynamics in toxic friend circles July 3, 2015 12:40 PM   Subscribe

I saw an Ask Metafilter comment a couple months ago (it may or may or not have been recent) that perfectly described the dynamics of a certain type of toxic friend circle. Unfortunately, I was not logged in, and didn't favorite, and my Google skills are failing me.

Whoever wrote the comment described the dynamics of this type of group SO WELL: when a conflict happens, no one pays any attention to who is right or wrong, and instead the person who is least popular gets ostracized to avoid "drama". Most members of the group are interchangeable, with various people joining and leaving/being ostracized. Eventually most people move on, leaving only a core two or three people who were actually friends in the first place.

Anyone remember?

I don't know exactly which one you mean, but i've definitely written comments about this sort of thing many times on here. If you browse through my history on ask there's probably more than 4 or 5.

This isn't exactly what you describe, but it ticks some of the boxes.
