Do You Like Good Music? November 13, 2015 7:32 AM   Subscribe

Following a recent MeTa on which interest was expressed in the idea of a MetaFilter Music Podcast, I decided that hell yes and made one - check it out on Soundcloud!

Thanks to all the awesome MeFiMusicians who were happy to have their tracks featured.

Tracklist:
Eideteker - Minnefunk
umbu - apache plaza
brodyaga - Orion
doleful creature - old memory
Jake - Proto Man
We are the Music Makers - We Chose to go to the moon

Future podcast aims include more awesome musicks, more challenge-related tracks, and hopefully less of me procrastinating over recording because I hate the sound of my speaking voice. Yay!

Ossum! I love music, I love MetaFilter, but I suck at checking MeFiMu.

This is a great idea. Thank you for doing it, greenish.

Cool! Soundcloud is OK but this should be in the Itunes store too. I'm happy to help figure that out for you if it's unclear how to get started syndicating!

My Tech Support tells me that you can subscribe to this in your podcast player using this link.

I can't guarantee it will work though, as I only pay him in chocolate.

Ps. thanks for the props, and especially to the mods who helped me not make a total hash of posting this :)

Soundcloud (or some other a-file-somewhere solution) is mostly just the easier/quicker way to get a first episode up and sort of see what feedback folks have, let greenish digest the work involved, etc. If it's something that feels like a good idea to run with all around we can look at gussying it up into more proper It's A Podcast framing, etc.

I favorited this so hard I may have cracked my iPad's screen.

greenish you are the best for doing this! (Don't be too modest to include your own stuff though. London, Will You Miss Me has been on my internal playlist for months now.)

Very yes to this! SoundCloud is ideal IMHO, more widely/easily accessible than iTunes surely? The more venues the better though.

Listening as I type!

Now is my memory fucking with me, or did there used to be an infrequent Music podcast hosted by cortex, 5 years ago or so?

I very specifically remember a Christmas episode that was all strange & offensive Christmas music. I was so enthralled that I downloaded each individual track, burned them to a cd, and took it to a Christmas Eve potluck. After 3 or 4 tracks people started looking around and whispering "What the fuck are we listening to?" and it quickly got switched out. To my relief, actually, since I'd started to doubt how a punk track called Buttfuck Baby Jesus would go over with the room.

Anyhow, I love the idea of a regular podcast. Like filthy light thief, I'm a big Music fan but don't make it over there nearly often enough, so having a curated sampling of the best stuff from the past month or two shoved in my face would be great.

Yeah, I made a few episodes years back but never got into a regular groove with it (which is part of why I'm delighted at someone else giving it a shot). There were three normal ones (1, 2, 3) and the two Holiday episodes, including a clean one and the uh, non-traditional one that mannequito is mentioning.

MetaFilter: probably a good idea to ask yourself, "Is it going to a problem if I play Buttfuck Baby Jesus for this crowd?"

Since I saw the title of this I've had this in my head:

Do you like MeFi music? We like MeFi music.
I like MeFi music... Baby.
Do you like MeFi music? We like all kinds of music.
But I like MeFi music BEST... bayy-by.

Love it, and your speaking voice is quite pleasant to my ear. Thanks, this makes re-writing job descriptions so much better!

Greenish, your voice sounds great. And how unlikely that someone in London would choose two Minnesota-themed tracks to start the podcast!

Oh, most excellent. Top notch. Thank you greenish! Would love to see this become a regular thang.

Hey, so much nice feedback on this, thanks a million everyone. I did genuinely worry that folk might be like, who is this podcast noob and can you just um-ah-um a little less so we can get on and hear the music. So I'm chuffed to bits that it's going down so well, although really that's 99% to do with the quality of the tunes. It's been played over a hundred times now so MeFiMusicians, your sounds are being dug.

Anyway this has bolstered my confidence enough to declare that there will most certainly be another one (who am I kidding, I started collecting tracks for it as soon as I finished recording the last one - it's almost taking over my Spotify playlisting obsession).
