the man of twists and turns brings the links March 1, 2016 10:42 PM   Subscribe

This evening marked the one thousandth FPP for the man of twists and turns. His humble beginning was here, on November 1, 2011. Thanks for all of the great FPPs and links, tmotat.

Ah! November 1st 2011. I woke up brutally hungover from a halloween party, was supposed to move to a new apartment and had packed absolutely nothing, stared at my large pile of crappy possessions, and instead turned to the internet and coffee. I remember that post. I also remember making a comment somewhere about having just smoked a half cigarette that I found in the slippers I was wearing and being mocked for it. I regret nothing. 'Twas a great time to 'filter.

To the man! May he twist & turn into the sunset, and eventually return to link us to the wonders upon which he gazed!

Cheers to the man of twists and turns for his consistently excellent contributions here. He's been a wonderful teacher for me, in the sense that he presents interesting doorways to step through. I joke that he's a cultivator of my personal micro-culture, and that his posts make me feel like a magpie: So many shiny things to pick up and learn about! I am grateful for that. The discussion that his work here has spawned is terrific, too. I am so glad of it.

Thank you, sir.

And thanks to MoonOrb for noting this milestone.

I'm going to get coffee. This is just ridiculous.

1,583 days since 11/1/2011, which means 1 post every 1.583 days if I'm not completely fucking up easy math, which is incredible.

What's most incredible is that I recognize the man of twists and turns as a person who does good posts but I've never once even remotely thought "oh man, this dude again."

I'm just a postwright, still looking for the one perfect link. For people you should keep your eyes on:

theodolite, who always sees the angles.

Blasdelb, injecting science like a phage injects RNA strands, irrevocably changing the threads.

filthy light theif, the researcher with the best eye for detail and interest I know.

flex, for posts that cut to the heart of things.

rorgy, who came up like I did, but smarter and actually insightful.

zarq, the deepest diver.

eriko, who cannot possibly know all the things.

MonkeyToes, for pig lessons.

kliuless, timely relevant accurate.

joseph conrad is fully awesome, from 0 to 300+, and that's a fact.

Smedleyman, the poster child for textual fingerprinting.

divined by radio, who mastered the arcane arts.

Rhaomi, the HTML wizard.

homunculus, the man himself.

Tangentially, Firefox derped in a spectacularly interesting way this morning and incorporated at least a snippet of this thread into a remarkable piece of modern artwork.

TMOTAT is pretty great

Am I the only Scrabble player who is now trying and failing to make TOMATO out of this name?

I think Tomatt is tomato in Swedish or Norwegian.

Oh my stars, yes! TMoTaT has seriously classed up this joint in the last few years! Thank you so much for all of the beautifully sourced, intriguingly obscure delights! May there be 1000 more!

TMOTAT is pretty great

If you just add an apostrophe like this: "T'MOTAT is pretty great," you get a very reticent Orkish battle cry.

(And, yes, TMoTaT is pretty great, and my Warband will give some disapproving glances to anyone who says otherwise.

The big M

Well deserved and was going to sing happy M because M had no comments then, thought no, derail. Then a meta, no, I'd screw it up. So
Thanks, really, IMO, A M Or similar badge should be awarded for a brief period.

At my average rate of 2.7 posts per year over the last 11 years, I'll hit 1000 posts somewhere around the year 2374. I should probably step it up a little.
