This year was incredibly hard for me in a lot of ways.
My mom was catastrophically sick for most of it, then passed away. A long-lost, unknown sibling appeared. I was laid off at the end of May, my son suddenly lost his disability, and a bunch of other stuff that just drains a person of energy and hope.
Not only did a bunch of members comment on the posts relating to those things, but several members reached out off site to offer all sorts of support - emotional and otherwise.
I just wanted to acknowledge and thank you so much for your help. I am and will remain beyond grateful for this site and all of you.
And on a positive note, after six and a half months of unemployment, I now have my CDL license and I'm employed as a school bus driver.
Thank you again for caring and happiest of holidays from the 80 Cats family.

That is amazing to hear. I have been following you and your son through your Facebook page (in a totally not-creepy way, I promise) and donated some money to your YouCaring, and so you have been on my mind a lot as a person who needs a good thing to happen. I am so glad that it finally has.

Hey that’s great news about the job. I grew up in rural NorCal and spent a lot of time riding school buses. I was just thinking the other day how great it is that I can still remember a couple of those drivers with clarity and fondness. That’s how important they were. Just think, in the years and decades ahead, some of your charges will have clear and fond memories of you.

80 Cats, I had a similarly poopy 2016/2017. I am almost through the end of it (two more probates to close) and I'm done. One thing I haven't mentioned here on MeFi is that among all the deaths, I restored contact with an estranged sister, and (after 25 years away) we actually like each other.
It gets easier. The loss, the change, the daily worry about what will happen next. It sounds like you've already got a big piece in play; your new job is fantastic. I don't know if this will track for you, but I'very been volunteering in an elementary school for almost 5 years now. The kids are difficult and trying and I look forward to seeing them all the time. Drive safely, and enjoy your kids .
