Can I just mention and thank MovableBookLady for a regular series of consistently thoughtful, interesting and informative posts to the blue? The breadth of subject she posts about is truly educational. I consider myself reasonably well read and educated but I've learned so much General Knowledge (used to be a VI form subject when I was a gel - is it still?) stuff I would never have come across without her posts.

Sometimes they don't get much discussion but maybe it's because one then has an entirely new thing to think about? Like they induce the opposite of a knee jerk response.

So much yes! I will admit to not always knowing enough about the 200Kers but MovableBookLady always stands out as someone making posts about things that interest me in a way that is interesting. How nice to see that everyone else thinks so too!

She is a delight and a treasure, and I've been hoping for some time to get her down to one of the Triangle-area meetups, as I'd love to meet her in person. Bravo, MoveableBookLady!

Let me take this moment to call out glasseyes as well for all around research goodness and asking just the right questions, all that A leveling in General Knowledge really built her a solid foundation. Here's her cool project

And, um, adding to the huzzahs for MBL's posts ;p

Got an innocuous sounding memail from Johnny Wallflower "are your ears burning?" Huh, I said, wonder what they're talking about. Clicked on the link and

AM GOBSMACKED

at this outpouring! I mean, y'all! and WOW! and jeez thanks! and Who knew?!

I am so pleased and gratified that y'all like the outpourings of my magpie mind. This is the best place! And I get to reciprocate by reading all the interesting posts y'all put up. I get to read things that make absolutely no sense to me, are way over my head, and thoroughly enjoy wrestling with the concepts and reports. Thanks.

Of course I've added this to my favorites so I can always come back and wallow whenever I need a healthy boost to my ego (which hardly needs help, you know). I can feel myself blushing a little right now.

MANY MANY THANKS.

glassyes interesting accent you have there, not sounding very Bristol-ish; it wouldn't be something like Scottish or Northern England, would it? Nice sentiment, though, thanks. Also amusing names in your vicinity, like Chew Magna and Pucklechurch (yes, I went and looked at a map).
posted by MovableBookLady at 8:56 AM on October 19, 2018 [2 favorites]

Heh! yes I do live in Bristol and have family ties to the North among other places but was channeling the Nac Mac Feegle there, I think, being as they have such respect for the written word.

Codrington - Old Sodbury - Upton Cheyney - Butcombe - Stackton Tressel* - yes, you are right about country placenames here. Up North they are generally a bit more rugged I think - can't believe they've got that name listed on google without an explanation for it (short version: anti-Cromwell Catholic insurrection)

I too enjoy MBL's posts! And, not for nothing, she sent me a very kind message once, that really cheered me up when I was feeling a little down about the responses to one of my comments. Yes, it had to do with books. : )

For about a month I’ve been thinking about MeMailing MBL to tell her how interesting and welcome her posts have been... but of course, since I’m easily distracted, I never actually did it. Thanks, glasseyes, for saving me the trouble.
