I don't have a photo, but so far while wearing my secret cabal T-shirt I've had one cashier say "I see you're one of us" and someone else (also?) presume I was a member of the Ordo Templi Orientis. I am a mild-mannered suburban housewife and am enjoying this new take on life.

I've been waiting a long time for MetaFilter shirts to be printed on something other than American Apparel. We complained about MetaFilter shirts being printed on American Apparel. We were promised MetaFilter shirts that were printed on something other than American Apparel.
I guess I'll keep waiting.

I love my mugs, I bought two! They’re a wonderful shape and a lovely blue. My only problem is that I can’t have mine at work anymore because everyone thinks I’m being a jerk (calling them a motherfucker and telling them they need to get their own mug).

For a while I took a sharpie and crossed out mug and wrote hug but it kept going away in work’s superhero dishwasher. Would love a mug the other way around though (hug struck out and replaced with mug). Otherwise the thing only makes sense to insiders.

There are three main factors at play when we pick shirt brands: colors, customer preference, and ethics.
We prefer to print on American Apparel because despite their former creepy CEO and weird, sexist advertising, they 100% for sure do not exploit foreign, child labor. Also they went bankrupt and are owned by a different company now. And we find their quality to be more consistent. It is a strange, difficult choice.
HOWEVER
Based on our experience, certain creators demographics don't like the way AA shirts fit, or certain colors aren't available, and for those shirts we print on Gildan or Bella or Hanes who all steadfastly assure us that they don't exploit child labor but still. Sometimes a batch will be printed in Honduras. Sometimes Nicarauga. Sometimes Pakistan. It's super weird.
IN THE FUTURE
In the future we plan to grow and harvest our own cotton and hire a bunch of hippies to sew and make the shirts you buy. Perfect shirts with no problems. But for now we must play with the hand we've been dealt by the System.
Mug, with bonus cat. I love the blue and the shape is my favorite mug shape.

That's well and good and I'm glad they are making sure there is no slave labor involved but the complaining I'm talking about was from big-boobed MeFites for whom women's AA shirts at the largest size they manufacture don't even come close to fitting across our boobs.

I may be the first person to break his MF mug. I reordered.
Also, I said I would sponsor a handful of these to anyone for whom money is tight. I've been on the other end of that equation for decades, so it's nice to be able to pay it forward to all those who made my way a bit easier. Anyway, the offer still stands.
If you would like a mug, and circumstances preclude you from being able to purchase one, let me know in a memail and I'll get one out to you. I'll comment here if I get a deluge and can no longer afford to do this. Obviously I am not just saying, "Free mugs!" but I don't want anyone who feels left out to be left out.

This is how I look right now, simultaneously relieved to be reunited with my sweet 2.5-year-old child after a work trip and resignedly bemused by her current tantrum, which started after I made a play-doh "cupcake" as requested, but to an insufficient quality standard.

Matt's mouth made a lot of promises that his ass couldn't cash. cortex and co. should have a Brand New Day to try to get MeFi shirts in sizes that fit everyone (no, unisex is not actually that) and I think they will once the Shop becomes a more year-round thing (hopefully in the works).

My mug has finally arrived!! I ordered it back in July right before they shut down orders when they ran out of stock. But it's finally here! All the way to Australia and it didn't break. I am perhaps unreasonably excited about this.
