Deleted MetaTalk post? August 30, 2002 3:45 PM   Subscribe

That's the first time I've seen a MetaTalk post deleted. Were we hacked, or was that the shortest MetaFilter membership on record?

Details, please.

Please to be de-confusing me at the present time.

Someone posted a post about how Limp Bizkit rules and if you disagree you are gay and that POD and Korn are good too and if you don't like them you are a pussy.

Then gummi said, as a matter of fact he was gay and didn't like Limp Bizkit and that his cat did like the two other bands mentioned.

Then there was much laughter and pointing at the silly person who posted the silly post. Then the thread got deleted, as it deserved.

I think he's refering to the post by someone named 9inchnalesux or something like that. It looked like a hack to me, the guy's user page was identical to the blank ones matt set up.

err, what daveadams said.

it was a pending user - matt fixed it, but previously one could post to MeTa even though their status was pending and they couldn't yet post to MeFi.

Well done, fearless leader!

By the way, please tell me, for the love of God, this guy is no longer "pending"?

judging by the content of the "post" (and in an ironic twist it was posted to Bugs), i'd say yes, they are very gone. and it may well be the shortest membership ever.

Matt's deleted other metatalk threads. He just does it when you're not looking... or maybe when we're all asleep.

I'm pretty sure he's an elf. Or maybe a leprechaun. Definitely some kind of magical pixie of some sort...

No, it's like Dark City. Every night at Midnight, Matt and the strangers come out and re-tune MetaFilter. Tomorrow, I have to be Cardaso.

In fact, I'm sure that when I am Cardoso, I'll even be able to spell my name.

As long as Jennifer Connely has something to do with it, I'm there!

I just hope Mr. 9inchnalesucks paid his five bucks.

There was a bug that I fixed, then deleted the thread.

Previous to an hour ago, you could sign up for a donate-to-get-a-user-account and login just fine to metatalk, but not metafilter. This is fixed and won't happen again.

Matt's true nature has already been revealed.

I gotta chance to see the now dead thread, and I liked it purely on its entertainment value. I know we're supposed to be above that sorta thing, but I figured when actual homosexuals entered the fray and used humor to basically defang the little cretin, that the thread took care of itself. The troll was kicked back under the bridge. Deleting it, then having this thread explaining it, just sorta adds fuel to the bonehead's fire, doesn't it?

We lose that thread, and for some reason now have this thread which is (less funny and) used to explain the deletion of the previous thread. Have we really gained anything from this? My mind veritably spins at the absurdity. If Matt deletes this thread, will someone create a thread asking why?

Maybe we could just have one page, which explains more generically why threads are killed, describes the process of deletion decision-making, and that page could have a link on the nothing to see here, move along page.

BUT WAIT!!!!! Limp Bizkit DOES rule and if you disagree you ARE gay and that POD and Korn ARE good too and if you don't like them you ARE my cat.

Sorry this thread isn't funny enough, Zach. Pretty much everything that was funny about the deleted thread has been repeated here, but it's never as good the second time, is it?

If Matt deletes this thread, will someone create a thread asking why?

Yes, I certainly would ask why.
