Spellcheck flagging 'MeFi' September 5, 2002 10:14 AM Subscribe
Isn't it internally ironic that when you run your post through a spell check, it gets caught on the term "MeFi"?
Ironic?* Technically, probably not. But I'm all for a more loose definition of the word, as in "ironic mustaches," which incidentally are banned from M4K.

As has been mentioned before, Bernstein, the spell checker knows all.

Shane:
interesting link, but i'm suspicious of an essay with so few references.
I mean, picking apart others' cast-off words using nearly no formal sources yourself? isn't that a bit ironic?
(kill me now.)
no really, i'm going to file that under my "links in my bookmarks that i might read one day but probably not but at one point will email to someone else, maybe."

I wish some bored programmer would have had some fun with spellchecker, just to mess with people.
Philadelphia? You must mean fishlipped spaghetti. I will change that for you now. Your message has been posted/sent.

ff: In fairness to Matt, I think his original essay had a link to a dictionary definition or something, but the original seems to be offline. You don't care about this, but I just had to say that in case Matt happens to read this and gets ticked at me ; )

P.S. BentPenguin: While not paying full attention, I read your user name and thought it said ButtPenguin.
I'm planning on using it in conversation at first opportunity.

What's really ironic is the suggested replacement for MeFi in the spellcheck.

ButtPenguin...I can't stop laughing...oh! the visions this conjures up. This may replace the almighty "shitfukkinmomma" as my new expletive of choice. (Ooooo can't wait to see what the spell checker has to say about shitfukkinmomma.)
