(This really was gonna come out on Monday but there was a bizarre data transfer issue from the service we have been recording on, now resolved, and so here we are on Wednesday, which is like Monday insofar as it's a day and here we all are.)

I think we were both coasting to a stop on the recording at that point and didn't bother pasting in links to chat, which is at least 99% of the time how the links end up in the post.

I don't remember Tom actually doing much interacting on Myspace, but I recall he was pretty popular on Google+ for the hot minute where anyone used Google+

Ach! I've mostly been enjoying the MetaTalkTails since I work on Sundays and it's been really cool seeing other people proposing and posting their own as well. It's nice to chat in here. Also there's Virtual IRL stuff going on which has made the MeTa sidebar (thanks frimble!) and chess.com is a new "also on" thing.

For asavage's Maltese Falcon thing, jessamyn might be thinking of his TED Talk.

Loved jessamyn's reaction to my video: "Does that work? OMIGOD!"

Ah, thank you, that is exactly what I was thinking of.

I HAVE NOT ABANDONED MY TRAIN FOR MY SNAILS!

Yes you did!

part way thru the podcast, with some notes:

1. yay my silly website got a shout out!
2. Billy Joel on TikTok - yes, The Boys has a lot of his songs, esp in Season 2, but I really doubt the TikTok crowd was into a niche show on Amazon Prime (but what do I know?)
2a. it is VERY VERY easy to burn an hour scrolling through the #fyp on TikTok without trying
3. Both Too Many Jockys and Taskmaster are amazing - and we're talking about it on fanfare!

Back to listening ...

FINE!

Seriously though the train area is in the basement and it's cold down there this time of year.

“UNO and then some” is perhaps Red7 (also on BGA).

“UNO and then some” is perhaps Red7 (also on BGA).

In hindisight, I should note that Red7 plays kind of slower and more tactically than UNO, so mght not be the game you're looking for if you want to put down lots of cards at once. But! It does have colors and numbers and is definitely more complicated so, uh, kind of?

chess.com is a new "also on" thing

Can I have a lichess.org pony as well if I promise to feed it a carrot every day?

It's on the SocialStuffs page which I think frimble does a sprint through every now and again. We should check to make sure that's all updated.

I have noticed that whatever leads on MetaFilter of late gets covered on NPR's Morning Edition in 48 hours -- Scott Simon was riffing on self-decapitating sea slugs just today for example. Whether this is due to active listening, great minds thinking alike or just plain zeitgeist I know not but the same stories keep appearing both places over and over day by day.

Just in case the explanation is that we have a Mefite inside NPR with influence on programming, if you could go ahead and do something about relentless bothsidesism masquerading as "balance", that would be greeeeat. And I'll make sure you get another copy of that memo.

My favorite UNO variant was (possibly) invented by my cousins and we call it UNO SNAP. Basically, if you have the identical card to the one just played, you can slap it down even if it’s not your turn, preempting the person who would have been next, and play continues after you, skipping anyone in between.
Also, if the identical card is a draw 2 or 4, they get added together and the next person has to draw 4 or 8...unless they also have an identical card!
