Apology for someone using anothers account September 25, 2002 5:44 AM Subscribe
When someone else uses your MeFi account to post a typo-riddled, incoherent, inflammatory comment, maybe the best way to repair the damage to one's reputation is to apologize upfront.
I'm sorry. [more inside]

Heheh, I wouldn't have even noticed that post if you hadn't mentioned it.
Or, did your husband post this Me-Talk thread as well?

I posted them both!
Really, that comment was one that 85% of MeFites would probably be proud to call their own. For better or for worse.

It would be worth a paypal account to get him his own account, if it were me. Once they get a taste of Metafilter, there's no going back...heh.

Once he has his own account, encourage him to establish his own identity. There's at least one poster who only shows up to support a relative's comments. Annoying as hell once you notice it (to me anyway), and maybe a little unfair in a "fake concensus" kind of way.

Now that you say that, I can see how out-of-character it was. Well, then, my neener-neener comment was intended for your husband. The sad thing is, that whole thread is kind of an asshole-a-rama. Thanks for clearing things up acridrabbit!

Wow, you're brave.
My husband and I are both mefites, but our styles are so different that I can't imagine having him post under my name, or vice-versa.
I wonder if there are other mefite couples who use the same account?

I don't see anything abhorrent about the post.

Dabitch--don't take this personally, I see it all the time:
[mode: peeve=ON]
Schizophrenia is the illness where you hear voices and perhaps see people who aren't there. It is all-too-commonly mistaken for Multiple Personality Disorder, where you have more than one distinct personality. While they sometimes appear together, they are not the same thing.
Thank you for your understanding.

Frykitty, I believe "Multiple Personality Disorder" has been renamed "Dissociative Identity Disorder."

Weird. That comment ws pretty much verbatim what they said on CNN that morning. Your husband isn't Paula Zahn, is he?

Hyperizer: I was not aware of neu's blog entry. Not too familiar with that member, but I'm guessing it's just that person's opinion being posted to that blog, you know? Why is that weird?
Anyway, my husband's post wasn't a divorcable offense by any stretch. But if he's going to post again I may ask him to at least let me proofread!

I've noticed post that are clearly a male, then one day out of the blue they post something that is obvious from a female's viewpoint experience. What was the carnival attraction, halfwoman-halfman, this would be the tagline for this...........

acridrabbit, why not buy your hubby his own membership? People here find multiple users on one membership confusing.
(You can still proof-read him, of course.)

Acridrabbit, I, in turn, apologize for being snarky to you in response to that comment. As a matter of fact, all 12 of the users who post as Joey Michaels do.
It just took so long to get the free membership.

I've been here a long time. It's never been my style to post asshole-ish comments like his, and I want to make sure people know that it wasn't me.
