Most Answers or Comments? May 22, 2024 8:13 AM   Subscribe

I am curious about which posts on the blue have gotten the most comments (not counting things such as U.S. politics megathreads), or which questions on Ask have gotten the most answers. How feasible is that to find out? It would be cool if those were set off, as another way to see what has had a lot of engagement.

Some of that is available in the Infodumpster.

You can get this from the Metafilter InfoDump. Also, a new Project was just posted that supplies graphs of stats (Thank you, Klipspringer!)

I'm not sure who maintains the infodumpster page but it doesn't seem to be working for recent posts/comments.

I also don't think Infodumpster was ever modified to include FanFare.

Some of those old Alphabet Game threads got pretty long.

The wiki has a page Longest Threads that discusses a bit of the history of the longest threads. However, that page hasn't been updated in a long time.

The infodumpster tells us the hunt for the Boston marathon bomber is the most commented-on non-politics MeFi post, and What in life did it take you a surprisingly long time to realize you've been doing wrong all along? is the most answered AskMe.

The infodumpster is still on the December 2023 vintage of infodump. I pinged the maintainer, Combustible Edison Lighthouse, in case they don't see this MetaTalk.

(Also, thanks for the mention, loup!).

Great question, and glad to learn about the infodumpster. I wondered something similar a couple months ago when I tried those “5 years ago on MetaFilter,” etc. links and was thinking about variation in number of comments.

That’s okay, nothing in the last few years has even approached what went on in the 2000’s.

What in life did it take you a surprisingly long time to realize you've been doing wrong all along? is not only the most answered AskMe, but peak MetaFilter.
