Infinitesimal, weird and probably just me: over on MetaFilter, when I click "Back" from a thread it takes me to this weekend's We're still working on the upgrade notice. [IE 6, W2KPro]

Mig, I take it you've done the obvious (deleted cache and cookies, logged out & in again)? That's the first port of call, and the limit of my techie knowledge (",)

Yeah, Miguel -- that has to be a caching issue, since there were two machines that served up the different upgrade notices, and neither of them were the MetaFilter machine itself. Thus, there's no way that they could be responding to your browser, since they aren't on the MeFi IP address anymore.

I have the same problem using IE5, W98se. Deleted cache and all IE content before trying again. It's a replay of the same issue I had during the server upgrade.

Yup, that was it. I used a nifty little thing called Cache and Cookie Washer, from Tucows. Worked a treat. Thanks a lot, guys!

Same problem here, and same solution.

This message brought to you by MiguelCardoso, MeFi billboard.

(Try surfing with Moz/Netscape's middle-click tabbed browsing. No more back buttons, ever! Well, a lot fewer. Going back and forth to the MeFi front page is one of the main things that got me to switch.)

For reading MeFi, Moz rox. (Phoenix is even better in subtle ways cuz its Moz without the bloatware, but I digress)
The problem is that when you post. The nifty italics, bolding and link functions don't work, and thats a MeFi/phoenix buzzkill (for me)
Someone posted a work around or XMI extension for this, but I wasn't able to get it to work here. Anyone have success with this?

Sigh.

dhartung: another solution, for those who use MSIE is to have multiple browser windows open, keeping MeFi homepage as one, and right-clicking/open in new window.

dash: That's exactly what I got tired of doing. Especially because it eats Windows resources like crazy, and because IE contains at least two triggers to bring the opening window to the fore, neither of which has the decency to wait until the page is actually loaded -- or until I'm finished writing in another window.

Netscape doesn't make me look at anything until I damned well want to.

Bent: Composite Textarea Editor. I couldn't get it to work either; it just opens a non-editable window and sits there. If I add buttons to the page, they screw up posting.
