Time Limit Error December 23, 2002 9:44 AM   Subscribe

Since the start of December, whenever I've written a post for the front page, previewed it, then hit the final 'Post' I get this error, which says the 'request has exceeded the allowable time limit'.. and this occurs on the line where weblogs.com is pinged. My posts do make it to the front page but I just get this error.

Someone reported the same error six months ago, but it appears to have started again..

Yeah, I get it two. It's just MeFi's zany way of saying it already has enough posts, thank you very much.

And just who's fault is that, Mr. 300 thread man?

(It's a joke. Laugh or I'll send someone over to bite your butt...and appropriate your cognac stash.)

*laughs a lot*

Ah, dejah. Back in my glory non-castrati years I'd have been on MeTa by now with a "Wow! Who else is in the 300 Plus Club?" thread. As it is, I'm pushing my luck with a mere comment. ;)

It's a timeout for the ping to Userland's weblogs.com server. I've been meaning to email Dave Winer about it to ask him what's up, but from time to time sending his server a ping times out after 30 seconds.

there's no way to send the ping and move on? why does the code have to wait for a response?

Because that'd mean Dave Winer wouldn't get his way :-)
