i like the redesign too. but metatalking about it is a horrible idea. send him an email.

It is really damn accessible and inviting. Some blogs suck you in, others say "There's just overwhelming shite here all over the page for you to wade through." I'll go for the former. Undoubtedly Matt's talent at this is part of the success of Mefi.

I'm just glad that 'Happy Bday MeTa' thread got pushed further down and out of sight.

I liked the old one better.

I love the new design, and went bouncing over to squidfingers to check out his patterns immediately after.

This is why Matt gets paid the big bucks. Er...or something.

I prefer the old layout myself, but I also couldn't design my way out of a paper bag, so what would I know?

Re: The design itself: Ehhh. I really, really liked the old design, the innovative way the most recent post got a privileged place above the fold; now, with blogpostsan'asidebar, it looks pretty much like every other weblog out there, really. Of course, now that he's not using the old design any more, I can steal it. (Kidding! I kid!)

On the other hand, the "Posted Elsewhere" section just knocks me out. Matt, if you're reading this -- how are you doing that? By hand? It's a great idea, however you're doing it.

Re: Talking about it here: Of course we are. This is MATT FREAKIN' HAUGHEY we're talking about, and don'tyouforgetit.

I setup my own trackback channel for the posted elsewhere thing, and I wrote a bookmarklet that grabs the URL I'm viewing and the page title, and I copy and paste the other two things, then send the ping through to my site. So it's mostly by hand, but I've automated it as much as I could. It'd be nice if there was a field called "URLs to ping" whenever I made a comment, but since very few readers would use it, I don't think that'll catch on like wildfire anytime soon.

And this thread isn't exactly metatalk material, but I haven't setup comments on my site yet, so this is a great way to get feedback.

Since you're using MovableType, you can set up a trackback category that can include URL's to Ping. You're right that probably very few people would use it, but you can do it.

As very recently seen in experimental phase at d-log, one of the sites belonging to our very own walrus.

Well, what I'm trying to do (get notifications of articles I'll be interested in from other sites) is a little different to what Matt's doing, but still similar in that I use a trackback category. I wouldn't mind a look at that bookmarklet though ...

Loved the old design. Love the new design. Loved seeing it here on MetaTalk, because, hell, we can have nice things, sometimes.

yeah, nice design, noticed it because the blogging killer app article got at mention at mozillazine.

you're going to set up comments? oh dear.

But taz, if mathowie lets us comment on his site, it won't be nice for very long, will it?

Is a blogrolless blog even really a blog?
